My office, Oakley Square Eye Associates, is looking for a qualified optician. While we don't require the new optician to have a license, we do require at least a year's worth of experience as an optician or as an apprentice in the field. While we appreciate "hard workers" and those "willing to learn," we need someone to step in and be immediately capable. Please do not respond to the ad unless you have experience.
Routine optician tasks include of course the selection of eyewear for our patients as well as the ability to troubleshoot problems with glasses, do repairs and adjustments, and to be familiar with add-on's like transitions and antireflective coatings, etc.
Previous technician experience is nice for occasional crossover, but that isn't a necessity by any means. Familiarity with contact lens insertion and removal training is also very useful.
Our office is open Monday through Saturday. Saturdays are required, although the office has shortened hours on Saturday of 9-3. We have two evening days of Tuesday and Thursday - the opticians split the evening shifts and on the evening day will work from 12:30 to 8. All other days the hours are more 9-5. Off days are Sunday and either Monday or Wednesday.
Entry pay for opticians can range between 15 and 21 per hour depending on your experience and capability. We have room for pay increases as the skills and production warrants. We offer an IRA with office matching and will pay up to 250 per month toward your own health insurance plan.
