Job Title: Legal Assistant/Paralegal
Reports to: Managing Partner
Compensation Range: $27,000 - $50,000 for full time working hours but part time and flex time position structuring are available.
Job Summary
This position will provide Paralegal and Legal Assistant responsibilities for a growing law firm with a unique flexible environment and a plan to work mostly virtually. .
Paralegal/Legal Assistant Duties and responsibilities
Performs research and prepares a summary of research results as requested.
Drafts legal documents and proofreads for accuracy.
Files documents and pleadings with various courts and other agencies.
Summarizes legal documents, deposition transcripts, etc.
Communicate professionally and promptly with firm personnel and external contacts at all times; emphasis on customer service excellence.
Tracks all case dates and deadlines.
Assists in preparing for trial including but not limited to preparation of various legal documents and organizing documents for use at trial.
Prepares exhibits and exhibit indexing for trial, maintaining exhibits for orderly retrieval and use.
Prepares basic motions and court filings or customizes prior examples to current matters.
Experience with and knowledge of e-discovery, and related softwares a plus; litigation support software
Assists with factual investigation and legal research, including contact with various agencies to request documents and reports.
Capable of understanding professional and ethical rules attorneys work under and support all aspects of compliance and handle confidential information with discretion.
Competence and use of time and billing systems
Ability to work with a flexible schedule, including some weekends
Familiarity with CLIO a plus
Managing and maintaining client files and matters as assigned by proactive approach
Use and mastery of hardware such as printers and scanners; routine maintenance of same
Qualifications
Prefer certificate in paralegal studies or equivalent experience; education of bachelors or masters even if in other fields a plus
0 experience required for someone from a certificate program; otherwise 1 to 3 years of experience is preferred.
Strong computer skills, including MS Office; Excel and Word.
Strong written, oral, reporting, and presentation skills.
Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Strong organization and analytical skills; good attention to detail.
Ability and willingness to maintain confidentiality.
Team oriented mindset with excellent customer-service skills and matching attitude.
Working conditions
Located in Western Suburbs of Cleveland, Ohio. Work and Clients may be anywhere in the USA depending on circumstances; work will involve securities offerings; securities transactions; litigation; state and federal agencies; substantial and complex transactions and complex legal issues. Flexible hour environment and the firm plan is to transition to mostly virtual practice. However, some evenings and weekend may be required for special projects. Initially work will be conducted in a west side suburban location.
