General Manager (Westerville)

Ohio, Columbus 00000 Columbus USA

Vacancy expired!

Job Description:

theCoderSchool is looking for a General Manager (GM) to head up our Westerville location! A GM is responsible for everything that happens in the school. You will work with an awesome staff of Code Coaches and coordinators, meet incredible kids and parents, and see smiles coming in and going out the door. This position rocks because you will:

Mentor, grow, and hire an awesome staff of Code Coaches

Meet and relate with parents - many of whom will be techies themselves, who work at some of the best companies and startups in the area

Best of all, you'll help your community's next generation learn the skills they require in an increasingly technical world.

Responsibilities

The bulk of the GM's responsibilities revolve around managing parents, students, and the overall school operations. A GM with a technical background may also be asked to teach lessons. All staff at the location (typically 10-15 part time employees) will report to the GM. This is a full-time position which requires onsite management during our hours of operations (typically 3-8pm weekdays, and some weekend hours), and time at various other hours throughout the day for offsite work. The key areas of responsibility are:

Day to Day Operations - Scheduling, Customer Service, Parent Management, Billing, and much more. This is often the bulk of a GM's responsibilities.

School Growth “ Marketing, nurturing leads, scheduling trials, closing sales “ in short, growing the school. While a marketing budget may be allotted, the GM must also spend with an eye towards return on the investment.

Staff Management “ Recommendation for hiring and firing, reporting of unusual activity to owners, assistance in the hiring process (i.e. interviewing potential coaches), ensuring accountability, checking lesson quality (i.e., student satisfaction)

School Vibe “ Meeting parents, high fiving kids, starting a community within the school. Our schools are fun and energizing. Whether moving furniture around or holding ping-pong tournaments or decorating for Christmas, we look to the GM to make sure the school is cool as can be.

Special Events “ Coordinating special events such as periodic Coder Fairs or Raspberry Pi nights, or other events, which may be held at various times and different locations.

What Else? Everything else. If the bathroom needs cleaning or the lights need changing, get your gloves on! If it is part of the success of this school, we'll look to our GM to drive and get it done (or get someone to get it done!)

Experience Required:

Management - 2+ years managing retail, services, or other industries (product, service, or staff) is required. Customer facing experience is required.

Experience with Kids. Kids experience, particularly teaching or tutoring experience is a big plus.

Technology - Expertise with basic technology like Word, Google Docs, Mac/PC, is required. Knowledge of CRM, billing, scheduling, or other commercial software is a plus. Coding abilities are a plus but NOT required. This is a business and service management position that manages a technical staff.

Skills Required:

Organization - The GM must be extremely organized and diligent in working with parents, follow processes to a tee, and keep everything well-documented so that others can track the same items. Multi-tasking of many simultaneous tasks is a common job responsibility.

Great Communicator - There will be plenty of chatting with parents, and of course patience is a virtue when it comes to kids! You will need to negotiate with unhappy parents from time to time. You must be GREAT at small talk, big talk - all talk!

Leadership - The GM needs to be a natural leader, able to manage staff, parents, and students in an effective way.

Coding Knowledge - While we are running a coding school, this is not necessarily a technical position. A basic understanding of technology and coding is very helpful, but not required. However, you must be open to learning new concepts, and able to pick up enough about technology to successfully speak to it and sell it.

This is a full-time position that reports to the Owners of theCoderSchool Westerville and is subject to change based on annual performance review. Sound awesome? Shoot us an email with a cover letter and resume!
