Safety Ambassador - $14.00 per hour - Short North

Ohio, Columbus 00000 Columbus USA

Vacancy expired!

Introduction

The Short North is known as an arts district that is comprised of restaurants, art galleries, retail stores, businesses, residential buildings, and nightclubs and other entertainment. The district is known for its diverse culture and its fun, edgy charm. Other events include the Doo-Dah Parade, Comfest, and the Pride Parade. The district is either the home or an extremely active participant of many events, which include the Doo-Dah Parade, Comfest, and the Pride Parade. The area also hosts the monthly Gallery Hop, which brings in ten to twenty thousand visitors who enjoy extended business hours of the Art galleries and retail shops, street musicians, and other vendors. The Short North is becoming known as a destination spot and has been covered in the national media, including the New York Times. Mayor Coleman said the Short North gives Columbus swagger.

Behind the scenes, the district works hard to maintain a clean and safe experience for residents and visitors alike. The district faces the typical challenges of other destination communities across the country: an aging infrastructure, ongoing litter control, addressing graffiti and tags, homelessness, panhandling and keeping the community connected and informed. While these challenges are harmless in nature, they do require a good deal of effort to stay on top of them. This is where the Short North's ambassador program comes in.

What Ambassadors do

The role of the Ambassador is very broad. Essentially, Ambassadors work to make the district inviting through cleaning, safety, public relations, and outreach services. Duties include maintaining the cleanliness of the district, maintaining flowers beds and shrubs, removing graffiti, completing tasks to make the area more aesthetically pleasing, assisting and welcoming visitors, providing safety and security patrols, coordinating with Columbus Police Department, and assisting persons in need to find social services that would benefit them.

Skills and Ability Requirements:

Ambassadors perform as part of a team. An Ambassador must be a people person and have the ability to say hi to everyone you pass on the street.

You must be able to relate well to people of diverse backgrounds. The Short North is as culturally diverse as anywhere you will ever find yourself.

You should have an outgoing personality and a desire to help people with directions, suggestions, or information about the Short North.

Ambassadors have the desire to work to enhance the district aesthetics and create a welcoming atmosphere.

All ambassador work is conducted outdoors in all weather elements.

The position can be somewhat physical. Ambassadors must be able to lift 45 pounds unassisted. Also, Ambassadors spend most of their time walking or standing.

Ambassadors operate a small tractor, a golf cart, and a variety of power equipment such as lawn mowers and trimmers, gas powered pressure washers and water pumps, etc.

Ambassadors water plant beds and do some mowing and trimming.

Ambassadors conduct litter control. They pick up trash and empty trash cans when they are full. Litter control is an ongoing duty. Ambassadors never pass up the opportunity to pick up and dispose of litter.

Ambassadors remove graffiti and other signs through a variety of techniques such as chemicals, pressure washing, painting, and scraping.

Ambassadors provide a safety presence and observe and report illegal behavior. They also establish a security presence through security patrols throughout the district.
