The In-Shop Technician position is based inside client's automotive repair facility. The successful technician will consult with the shop(s) and assist in completing scans to diagnose and recommend repairs for vehicles involved in collisions. Additionally, In-shop technicians may complete basic repairs on vehicles. Our Technicians effectively use OEM (original equipment manufacturer) web-based information and web resources for automotive diagnostics and repair information to increase scan volumes at their respective shops.

Primary Purpose of the Position

The In-Shop Technician position is based inside client's automotive repair facility. The successful technician will consult with the shop(s) and assist in completing scans to diagnose and recommend repairs for vehicles involved in collisions. Additionally, In-shop technicians may complete basic repairs on vehicles. Essential Functions

Primary duties are completed in an automotive repair shop environment

Responsible for test driving and/or moving customer vehicles at shop locations

Serve as primary client contact as needed within the service process

Consultative coaching to the customer for the necessity of diagnostic scans at assigned shop(s)

Act as Subject Matter Expert for insurance adjusters regarding diagnostic scanning

Proficient in identification of faults, error messages, module corrections, etc.

Ensure compliance utilizing basic knowledge of applicable laws

Utilize understanding of the structure and practices of various types of repair facilities, body shops, insurance carrier s to facilitate effective working relationships

Utilize various tools and diagnostic equipment to make the most effective recommendations for repairs on multiple makes and models

Ability to quickly learn how to evaluate information and data to provide comprehensive interpretation of technical information

Complete basic physical repairs to damaged vehicles such as checking and replacing fuses

Adequately explain technical diagnoses and needed repairs to non-mechanical individuals which may include employees, clients and insurance customers on a daily and consistent basis

Continuously learn new technical information and techniques in e-learning or other training sessions in an effort to stay well-informed with rapidly changing automotive technology

Assist fellow technicians in performing technical evaluations

Keep team management aware of mechanical repair problems as they occur

Adhere to all company and shop policy, procedure, safety and environmental rules

Minimum Qualifications:

A technical or vocational school graduate with a minimum of 1 year at car dealership

OR minimum 2-3 years of experience in an aftermarket repair facility

Strong automotive mechanical diagnosis, problem-solving and repair experience

Must have company designated certifications or obtain within 6 months: ASE, I-Car, MECP

Current, valid driver's license and satisfactory Motor Vehicle Report (MVR)

Preferred Qualifications:

Self-motivated, high energy and a client-focused perspective

In depth understanding of automotive industry and various manufacturer acronyms and lingo

Reports to: Market Area Manager in various locations throughout the US.

Supervisory Responsibility: This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

FLSA Status: This job is non-exempt.

Work Environment: This job operates in various automotive repair shop environments that may be cold, hot, noisy, and wet and may have fumes or odors due to vehicle maintenance.

Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

Must be able to lift up to 60 pounds independently; majority of lifting from knee to shoulder heights; other lifting required from various levels.

Must be able to carry and transport up to 60 pounds up to 20 fee

Requires standing for extended period of time with frequent stretching, reaching, walking and stooping, pushing and/or pulling in an environment that may be cold, hot, noisy, and wet and may have fumes or odors due to vehicle maintenance.

Requires excellent visual acuity and manual dexterity

Requires use of safety equipment that may include but not limited to face shield or goggles, non-slip shoes, gloves, mask, and other protective garments and equipment

Requires frequent driving and some typing

Required to have visual acuity to operate motor vehicles.

Travel: Some travel within the assigned geographic area is expected.
