Job Description
SUMMARY:The VP Controller will be responsible for direct management of all accounting and financial functions. Primary areas of responsibilities include the general ledger, payroll, accounts payable, and tax functions. The VP Controller will have 5 direct reports and 25 associated in total.
Further responsibilities would include the monthly close process, annual preparation of a budget, fixed assets, oversee the tax return preparation, supporting non manufactured product accounting, company policies and procedures, efficiency and opportunistic enhancements in the function and throughout the company.
OBJECTIVES:- Timely and accurate preparation and delivery of required monthly internal reporting and quarterly & annual bondholder/external financial reports
- Compliance with all financial, tax, payroll reporting requirements/guidelines
- Coordination and execution of all external auditor compliance engagements, third party service providers and working with tax co-sourcing company
- Partnering with other functions as required
- Continue to move the organization up the curve when it comes to use of technology/systems/tools to become more efficient
- Owner and oversight of ensuring internal controls are effective an operating
- Leader of technical interpretations from Accounting regulatory bodies
- Review of journal entries required to reflect the monthly activity
- Preparation of work papers supporting the monthly close process and month end balances
- Review monthly accounting close process including analytical review of the monthly operating results to ensure accurate accounting records are maintained
- Detailed review of SGA and departmental variances
- Preparation of work papers supporting the annual tax return
- Preparation of monthly reforecast incorporating historical results and future assumptions
- Supervision of all accounts payable processed
- Maintenance of fixed asset records for and coordination of physical inventory of fixed assets
- Implement, document and maintain adequate and effective processes to improve the close and reporting cycles to ensure timely and accurate reporting
- Proper analytical review of the asset operations from a balance sheet, income statement and cash flow perspective as well as an overall business perspective
- Forward leaning on process improvements
- Has desire to want to understand more than just immediate areas of responsibilities
- Past experience in leading/engaging discussions with Board, Audit Committee
- Excellent leadership, communication and collaboration skills – up, down and across the company
- CFO and other members of Executive Team
- Accounting, Financial and IT colleagues, teams and direct reports
- Other internal customers and external service providers
Qualifications
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:- Bachelors and/or Masters Degree in Accounting or related field - required
- CPA - required
- Previous Corporate Controller experience - required
- External Reporting experience - required
- Public Accounting Experience – preferred
- Plant/Operational experience – a plus
- Shared Services environment/exposure – a plus
