The Patient Registration Clerk role is a great steppingstone to other careers within customer service and other departments with Cleveland Clinic.A caregiver in this position works varying shifts from either 7:00AM - 3:30PM or 10:30AM - 7:00PM.A caregiver who excels in this role will:

Register all incoming patients (inpatient and outpatient) and verify information, insurance coverage and eligibility, and Medicare medical necessity.

Obtain required paperwork, essential information for processing patients, and signatures on required forms while educating patients regarding compliance while obtaining signatures.

Receive, screen and provide directions to people coming into the hospital and report suspicious persons or activities.

Answer the telephone promptly and courteously, provide information and take messages.

Collect co-payments and conduct financial counseling for self-pay and underinsured patients while instructing them on financial assistance alternatives.

Educate patients on HIPAA regulations.

Receive and process information from floor personnel concerning transfer of in-house patients, provide floor personnel with information as requested, maintain a current list of patients by name and room number and correct changes.

Schedule appointments for specialty clinic and occupational health and pre-register scheduled radiology, respiratory therapy and surgery patients.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

High school diploma or GED.

Proficiency with computer software and multi-system telephone systems.

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

Knowledge of medical terminology.

One year of experience in an office setting and/or patient registration.
