Job Description

The primary focus of this role is the application of mechanical & fluid systems engineering principles during the commissioning, startup, testing and follow up support for new advanced glass container production assets. This includes both performing commissioning activities and working with various vendors/contractors to complete commissioning and startup activities. Depending on the scope of each project, this role may only work in one area of the production line or may work across the entire production line.

Beyond just commissioning, startup, and support roles, this role will also be responsible for identifying improvement opportunities and leading the continuous improvement initiatives that are born from those opportunities.

  • Provide engineering support to the operations leadership team to address the needs of the operations team, strategic partners, and communities.
  • Utilization of engineering tools, such as Microsoft Products (Word, Excel, Powerpoint etc.), PTC Products (Creo, MathCad, Windchill, etc.), and Minitab, in the completion of assigned tasks.
  • Produce accurate results and completion of tasks within agreed timeframes. Flexibility and multitasking are required.
  • Complete commissioning activities connected to the deployment of O-I’s advanced glass container production assets. This includes leading those tasks within their area of expertise.
  • Support the continuous operation of newly commissioned production lines with a focus on key production metrics.
  • Coordinate and maintain accountability with external contractors/vendors to accomplish projects throughout the advanced glass container production line.
  • Support the creation of standard operating procedures, preventative maintenance schedules, work instructions, job hazard analysis, haz ops, risk assessments, and scopes of work to be used in the commissioning and operation of advanced glass container production equipment.
  • Provide training and training materials to other employees on various portions of the advanced production line.
  • Lead and participate in continuous improvement activities from the identification of opportunities to the implementation of those items.
  • Implement the Global EHS Contractor Fundamental for all contractor and vendor activities.
  • Report EHS incidents into the Enablon system and track action plans associated with the EHS incident
  • Identify and resolve EHS issues related to global manufacturing fundamentals along with local and federal regulations
  • Develop project budgets while working with key internal resources and strategic external vendors.
  • Report on key project performance metrics such as budget, schedule, EHS, and milestone achievement.
  • Produce documentation for review in the form of reports, designs, drawings, data organization.
  • Identify and resolve non-compliance issues related to corporate manufacturing fundamentals.
  • Manage records and documentation per O-I policy
  • Develop technical skills through both internal and external trainings, including online, classroom, and hands on.

SCOPE AND IMPACT: This position performs a broad range of activities to support the commissioning, startup, testing, and follow up support for new advanced glass container production assets. This includes leading and participating in continuous improvement initiatives.

EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering Program, preferably Mechanical (BSME) or Mechanical Technology (BSMET)
  • 4+ years of experience in troubleshooting mechanical and fluid systems.
  • 3+ years of experience in a production setting
  • COMPETENCIES

  • Understanding of applied thermodynamic and heat transfer principles
  • Understanding of applied fluid dynamics principles
  • Industrial combustion systems for high temperature processes
  • Industrial process water systems
  • Fluid power systems
  • Pneumatic system design, maintenance, and troubleshooting
  • Material conveyance systems; both bulk material and discrete article conveyance
  • Ability to work hands on with common hand and power tools in an industrial setting
  • Able to occasionally perform physically demanding job tasks
  • Work in high temperature environments
  • Bend, stretch, twist, or reach out
  • Although tools/equipment are provided for working with heavy items, there may occasionally be needs to lift items up to 50 lbs

TRAVEL60% to 70% travel, both domestic and international

Examples of possible travel: Regularly occurring 1-2 week trips for testing and support purposes 6-8 week trips for commissioning and startup purposes

Additionally, the specific travel destination will also influence the duration and frequency of the travel required.
