Description:I. Basic Purpose: The Team Lead has shift accountability and responsibility for the coordination, planning, implementation, oversight and evaluation of the nursing care provided to a nursing unit/group of patients at Martin Health System. This position supports the department with the management of day to day operations within their areas of responsibility. The Team Lead also supports the mission, vision, philosophy and strategic plan of the Patient Care Services Division as well as the corporate goals and objectives of Martin Health System. Ensuring ongoing professional growth and development is also a responsibility of the Team Lead.II. Major Duties and Responsibilities:

Complies with established corporate and departmental policies, procedures, objectives, quality assurance methods, and safety codes. Demonstrates compliance with licensing, regulatory and accrediting agency provisions as required.

Consistently demonstrates appropriate and professional communication and behavior toward patients, physicians, volunteers, customers, and coworkers. Cooperates with Management and peers to promote an environment of teamwork and collaboration.

Uses diagnostic reasoning and decision making skills in the provision of nursing care. Promotes development of these skills in others through effective coaching and education.

Assures an interdisciplinary nursing care model is used for identification, collection and analysis of data to enhance standards of care and promote desired patient care outcomes that are clinically effective and efficient. Works and rounds with other disciplines to coordinate care delivery to patients across the continuum.

Rounds with patients daily with a focus on evaluating quality of care, safety and customer service; identifying opportunities for improvement. Provides real time feedback and coaching when needed and escalates identified opportunities if necessary. Continually monitors patient satisfaction and performs service recovery when needed and appropriate. Elevates issues to their supervisor when appropriate.

Delegates patient care activities and supervises the delegated activities accordingly.

Facilitates patient flow efficiently within their areas of responsibility.

Provides direct patient care when appropriate or as required.

Assesses the need for implementation and education of measures to modify risks, promote patient safety and prevent medical errors.

Ensures that patient care is individualized based on the individual/family ethnic/racial/cultural/spiritual background, needs and preferences.

Assures that the Florida Nurse Practice Act is the basis of professional nursing practice, and that nursing practice is within legal parameters

Protects the rights of patients and their families

Assures that nursing practice is consistent with the ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses.

Participates in and supports MHS' process improvement using lean methodology

Assures that nursing practice is research, theory and evidence-based

Identifies the need for new policies and procedures, and participates in their development as patient care needs change

Supports new associates and preceptors to facilitate a smooth transition during the orientation and probationary period and continues to promote clinical staff development.

Provides feedback to supervisor for ongoing performance appraisals of associates within their department.

Assists in the development, implementation and evaluation of goals and objectives for department which provide for optimal patient care through systems which continually monitor and improve the quality of services. Participates in the improvement activities around the departmental key performance indicators.

Verifies accurate charting and billing as appropriate for their areas of responsibility.

Serves on departmental, interdepartmental, quality, medical staff, etc. committees as appropriate.

Maintains competency and safe practice patterns as measured by quality, education, performance improvement, risk management and other trend analysis.

Assists with the development, planning, and executing of the operational and capital budgets of the department. Resources are allocated (both in personnel and supplies) according to established goals, standards and patient care needs.

Supports and assists supervisor to create frontline engagement and involvement in change implementation.

Monitors compliance and coaches to the identified standard work, best practices, and guiding policies & procedures.

Participates in and/or supports professional nursing organizations. Participates in and/or supports community service activities.

Maintains professional and clinical competencies through participation in continuous learning activities; develops a mechanism for ongoing self-assessment for career path development.

Maintains annual mandatory education requirements specific to position as mandated by Martin Health System.

Performs all other duties as assigned or requested.

III. Minimum Requirements (experience, training, and education):To effectively fulfill this position, candidate must meet the following requirements:

Must have graduated from an accredited nursing program. Bachelor's Degree with a Major in Nursing, preferred.

Current/Active State of FL RN License required - primary source online verification required directly from State of Florida Licensing database.

Current acceptable BLS/CPR certification required: American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Health Care Provider OR American Red Cross CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer OR American Red Cross Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers OR American Red Cross Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers. ACLS, PALS, NRP as applicable to their areas of responsibility.

Minimum of one year acute care experience required.
