The Nuclear Operations Directorate is seeking a Senior Project Engineer to provide technical engineering support to the US Air Force Nuclear Weapons Center at Wright-Patterson AFB, in Dayton, Ohio. The specific work would include providing Nuclear surety and Certification technical support/integration to the Nuclear Certified Aircraft (B-2, B-21, B-52, F-15E, F-16, F-35) portfolios. The successful candidate will be required to interface directly with senior military and US Government civilian leadership at Aircraft SPOs and at the Nuclear Technology and Integration Directorate (AFNWC/NT). The successful candidate would combine knowledge of Aircraft and Nuclear Surety and Certification to provide support. Other responsibilities would include forming, leading, and executing both Government Integrated Product Teams (IPTs) and Aerospace study and analysis teams. This is a full time on-site position based in beautiful, temperate, and affordable Dayton, Ohio.

What You'll Be Doing
  • The specific work would include providing technical support to nuclear surety and certification, mission assurance oversight, systems engineering and integration, and detailed technical analyses of on-going and proposed modifications and upgrades to the nuclear rated aircraft
  • The candidate will be directly supporting The Nuclear Technology and Integration Directorate, Nuclear Surety and Certification Division (AFNWC/NTS). This division is responsible for guiding and managing the Air Force's Nuclear Certification Program, independently assessing Nuclear Surety and executing Compatibility Certification of all Air Force and Allied air-delivered nuclear capabilities.
  • The successful candidate will be required to interface directly with senior military and US Government civilian leadership at the Nuclear Certified Aircraft SPOs as well as in the Nuclear Technology and Interagency Directorate (AFNWC/NT) to execute support tasks, lead Aerospace study and analysis teams, and support the Air Force Nuclear Weapons Center.
  • The candidate will be able to provide assessments of new technology efforts for Air Delivered vehicles as well as assisting with developing requirements for future technologies. The candidate will also be comfortable working on ill-defined problems with many variables.

What You Need to Be Successful

Minimum Requirements:
  • A current Top-Secret clearance is required and the ability to obtain SAP clearances is also required
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, science, mathematics, or an appropriate technical discipline from a recognized institution.
  • Minimum 12 or more years' experience with aircraft and/or Nuclear Certification experience
  • Previous experience supporting acquisition and/or operation of strategic weapons systems
  • Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work in integrated Government/FFRDC/SETA teams
  • Ability to interact directly with senior Government management and to work autonomously in a program office environment.
  • A demonstrated ability to work effectively in a fast pace environment and complete tasks on short timelines
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with customers. Nuclear Surety, Nuclear Certification, Nuclear Weapons Safety, Systems Engineering, and Mission Assurance background and expertise required.
  • Up to 40% travel may be required to domestic US locations

How You Can Stand Out

It would be impressive if you have one or more of these:
  • Demonstrated engineering and technical leadership, including identifying issues, concerns, establishing resolution approaches, etc.
  • Previous experience with Nuclear capable aircraft, Nuclear Command and Control, Cryptologic Device Certification, Supply Chain Risk Assessment, Cyber Security, Risk and Vulnerability Analysis, Nuclear Weapons Systems Safety, Permissive Action Link Systems, Aircraft Monitor And Control (AMAC) Systems, and Unauthorized Launch Analysis is highly desired.
  • 20 or more years of increasingly responsible professional engineering/scientific experience, including multi-disciplinary systems engineering and/or program management environments
  • Advance degree in applicable science or engineering discipline
  • Knowledge of Aerospace ETG capabilities and experience with identifying tasks and managing ETG support
