Responsibilities:
- Prepares patient and equipment for ordered testing.
- Interviews patient to determine sleep disorder issues and to explain testing procedures.
- Performs and documents testing.
- Monitors patient throughout testing and intervenes as necessary to resolve patient needs or equipment issues.
- Instructs non-registered and trainees. Scores, interprets and reports results of sleep studies. Prepares, calibrates, repairs and maintains equipment required for testing. Determines and reports needed repairs/replacements. Performs QA.
- Other duties as assigned.
Education:
- High school diploma or GED.
Certifications:
- Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT).
- Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider.
Complexity of Work:
- Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
Work Experience:
- Must be a Registered Polysomnography Technologist, under the BRPT guidelines.
Physical Requirements:
- Requires full range of body motion including standing and walking for extended periods of time; must lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to assist with positioning and transporting patients.
- Requires the ability to maneuver equipment and motor coordination to operate equipment.
- Requires normal or corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
- Manual and finger dexterity and hand-eye coordination.
- Requires working under stressful conditions and irregular hours.
- Possible exposure to communicable diseases and body fluids.
Personal Protective Equipment:
- Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
Performs basic and advanced diagnostic sleep studies.
