The NISC III program has an opening for a terminal instrument procedures (TERPS) Flight Procedures Specialists supporting the FAA in its Oklahoma City location. The TERPS Flight Procedures Specialist provides support to the FAA Aeronautical Information Services Group (AJV-5). Primary support for this position will be to the Obstruction Evaluation team. Provides technical expertise to FAA Aeronautical Information Services Group and Service Area Flight Procedures Teams on the concepts and principles contained in FAA Order 8260.3C Terminal Instrument Procedures Development, FAA Order 8260.19C Flight Procedures and Airspace, and other applicable Orders and Directives that pertain to TERPS and obstruction evaluation. Duties will involve a wide range of functions:

- Reviewing aeronautical information/publications when released to confirm that air navigation information and technical data content is accurate and correct. Initiating corrective action where discrepancies are discovered and, if necessary, supporting the accomplishment of amendment(s) for affected procedure(s).- Coordinating as necessary with tech ops, air traffic personnel, and other contacts including regional and field FAA offices, National Flight Data Center, military and airline representatives, state and local aviation officials, and aircraft and airport operators.- Determining, upon reviewing available data, operational requirements, and environmental limitations, as to whether an equivalent level of safety is maintained to support Flight Procedures Standards waivers.- Evaluating the effect of proposed obstructions, altered or deactivated airports, NAVAID outages and revisions to controlled airspace as they affect instrument flight procedures. Taking action to amend affected procedures, as required.- Reviewing the National Flight Data Digest and determining if published data requires a NOTAM or an amendment to published instrument approach procedures. Ensuring such NOTAM is issued, as necessary, and following up with procedure amendment if required.- Evaluating existing Notices to Airmen (NOTAM) and initiating amendment actions to affected instrument approach procedure(s) or airway(s).- Accomplishing regional airspace and airport obstruction analyses for the Flight Procedures Offices. The Obstruction Evaluation Specialist (OES) will evaluate the effect of obstructions on en route and terminal instrument flight procedures based on national standards, user requirements, and professional knowledge.- Obtaining training in FAA unique requirements of procedures development and Quality Assurance.- Reviewing Transmittal Letters and taking appropriate action to correct when errors are noted.

The candidate will have demonstrated experience in any of the following:- Airspace and Procedures background (Instrument Flight Procedures)- Air Traffic Control Experience (FAA, Contractor or Military)- Commercial Instrument Rated Pilot (Military or Civilian)- Certified Instrument Flight Instructor.

- A degree in an Aeronautics, Aviation, or Air Traffic Control career field.- Previous experience with FAA or DoD terminal instrument procedures (TERPS).- A Bachelor's degree with 8 or more years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered for determining qualification.
