Job Description

The Student Support Managerwill be primarily based at one of our local campuses. This position will be responsible for maintaining documentation and managing matters related to special education compliance with a full spectrum of federal and state requirements at the campus and school level. This position will also assist in sustaining policies and systems that ensure KIPP Tulsa overall compliance with student support services regulations, working closely with our student support services staff and school leaders. The compliance manager will report to the director of student support compliance and policy.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Drive Compliance:

  • Ensure student support services staff abide by IDEA and local regulations
  • Oversee compliance of student support services files
  • Own scheduling and holding IEP, SEP, Eligibility, and 504 meetings in a timely manner
  • Maintain a special education database system for current records of SPED Students.
  • Support and train team/case managers to gather and analyze data (assessments, grades, observations, teacher comments, etc.) prior to requesting evaluations and input information into SEDS
  • Support case managers with necessary paperwork and collecting data.
  • Work closely with school psychologists and other related service providers to ensure assessments are completed in a timely manner
  • Coordinate the implementation of accommodations on state and local testing in collaboration with school teams
  • Consult with IEP teams to determine whether to proceed with the SPED process for placement and dedicated aide concerns, as needed
  • Collaborate with the case manager and Director on due process actions
  • Serve as a liaison between KIPP Tulsa and partners or legal entitiesrepresenting students with disabilities
  • Coordinate the dissemination and collection of Medicaid related documents to parents and other stakeholders
  • Coordinate the alternate assessment for students with disabilities
  • Provide technical assistance to staff members in order to comply with the ADA and Section 504.

Oversee Site Managers

  • Serve as the LEA Representative in all SPED meetings at their campus
  • Support case managers and/or chairs complex cases, including those with legal representation, as needed
  • Take comprehensive meeting notes and/or monitors notes taken by case managers; records dissenting opinions
  • Receive and review monthly reports on the status of outstanding IEP documentation
  • Ensure that case managers have the proper paperwork for meetings and that the follow-through after the meeting is completed timely and efficiently

Ensure Academic Progress:

  • Ensure IEPs are compliant with federal and district regulations, goals are standards based and relevant for the individual student, and present levels of performance are appropriate and current.
  • Facilitate data-based discussions to help the MDT design IEPs to best support student growth
  • Perform other related duties, as assigned:
  • Serve as the face of the student support team at your campus to all parents, school leaders, staff, and community members
  • Distribute weekly memos to school teams and facilitate department meetings, when needed
  • Facilitate small group and whole staff professional development on an as needed basis
  • Attend professional development workshops, conferences, and meetings to stay abreast of current topics in student support services

Gifted and Talented

  • Developing program objectives the comply with district rules
  • Developing lesson plans (with GT/SPED Teachers)
  • Implementing objectives with activities
  • Monitoring student progress through the program
  • Maintaining records and serving as a resource person in special education for district staff
  • Maintainprofessional competence by completing professional development and continuing education courses that will stimulate growth

English Language Lerner Oversight

  • Working closely with all ELL students in a local school district
  • Familiarity with educational standards and frameworks
  • Ability to follow detailed guidelines and specifications
  • Ability to meet strict deadlines
  • Applying an existing test design to the creation of new passages and test items
  • Recording and applying project updates to the creation of materials
  • Training, communicating with, and editing the work of a team of test developers
  • Ensuring that all test materials are correctly aligned to standards, blueprints, and specifications and are free of bias

Serve as a full-time and engaged member of KIPP Tulsa's staff, including activities like attendance to teacher/staff meetings, accompanying students on field lessons, assisting with student recruitment and enrichment activities, and working with other staff members to ensure fulfillment of KIPP Tulsa's mission.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of five years of previous experience in Special Education;
  • Bachelor’s Degree required;
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills;
  • Special Education credential required;
  • Experience managing a multi-site Special Education program preferred;
  • Experience with and strong knowledge of local and national Special Education laws and mandates
  • Experience working in an inclusive model classroom or experience as a case manager coordinating services for a group of students
  • Understanding of Response to Intervention (RtI) programs and experience implementing RtI programs in schools
  • Awareness of web-based IEP management systems and competency using the systems to document student records
  • Ability to facilitate tactful communication between staff, students, and parents to evaluate situations, solve problems, and resolve conflicts
  • Demonstrated ability to work well with others, build relationships across teams, and manage multiple stakeholders;
  • Articulate, polished, and professional demeanor with strong work ethic, self-confidence, initiative, and leadership skills;
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced, high-energy environment with a proven ability to meet and complete multiple deadlines and tasks;
  • Demonstrated flexibility, creativity, and collaborative working style;
