Job Description:

This position is Remote. Candidates will be considered based on their qualifications and the candidate's ability to work from an approved work location. Although the location is flexible, AEP does not have a presence in all states and localities. The following locations are NOT currently approved for this position: AK, CO, CT, DE, HI, IA, ID, KS, MA, ME, MS, ND, NH, NJ, NM, NV, NY, OR, RI, SD, UT, VT, WY, US Territories or international work locations. AEP will consider qualified candidates who are willing to relocate to an approved work location, at the candidate's expense, provided the relocation can be completed within a timeframe that meets AEP's staffing needs.

Working within Waterfall or Agile frameworks, a Business Analyst will work with a variety of disciplined focused team members all working toward a common goal of delivering value with quality and scale. Responsible for collaborating with other Job Families within Technology and across our business partners to deliver consistent, reliable technology solutions that leverage AEP's technology standards, architectures and best practices. Independently performs advanced business and project analysis for any sized project.

Responsibilities include the following for any sized projects or initiatives:
  • Able to organize analysis to understand stakeholder needs and create business case and project scope.
  • Demonstrates breadth and depth of business analysis techniques and tools for use case modeling, data modeling, and process mapping.
  • Demonstrates ability to learn new domain by advocating and collaborating with business and technical teams utilizing extensive experience in methodologies
  • Demonstrates advanced facilitation skills and process improvement skills.
  • Creates analysis work plans and estimates of analysis activities
  • Able to use multiple techniques for requirements elicitation and capture including conducting workshops, creating documentation, establishing business capabilities, and ensuring asset organization and refinement.
  • Proves technical aptitude utilizing querying tools and understanding relational databases.
  • Able to provide feedback on internal database designs and identify data issues and resolutions
  • Able to understand and apply technology solutions by translating business requirements into conceptual, logical, and physical data models, and basic system configuration
  • Mentors business analysts within department/division.
  • Provides a specialized level of process redesign and support including using tools, responding to user questions, problem diagnosis, recognition and solutions for process improvements, research, troubleshooting, tracking and resolution.
  • Plans and monitors expenditures to meet organizational objectives and compliance
  • Monitors and manages assets and resources from a financial perspective.
  • Responsible for business unit relationships and overseeing, managing and leveraging the entire life cycle of information technology investments in systems for a large business unit or major corporate initiative - from defining and targeting the investment mix, to planning the portfolio structure and packaging, to creating and communicating the portfolio plan and implement actionable items to achieve results.
  • Plays a key role in the strategic planning process for the IT organization, acting as a lead advisor to the CIO, CFO, other senior business leaders, the IT leadership council, and governance committees.
  • Works with and advises these individuals and groups on how enterprise priorities link to technology investments, and the risks and benefits of specific portfolio activities and advises other Portfolio Managers.
  • Directs the IT organization and other stakeholders to develop, prioritize, and execute the information technology and business portfolio plan.
  • Analyzes portfolio performance, and drives changes in investment mix to achieve goals.
  • Proactively identifies opportunities to improve the strategic position to lower cost of ownership and provide a competitive advantage to the business.
  • May provide training and mentoring, as well as work direction, to others on the team.

  • Writes and executes test cases.

  • Possesses knowledge and fundamental awareness of the planning and monitoring of expenditures.

Requirements

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, business or related field of study
  • Or Associate's degree in computer science or related field of study with 2 years of relevant work experience;
  • Or High school diploma/GED with 4 years of relevant work experience.

Experience: In addition to any experience required above, 7 years of relevant work experience is required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Content & ARCS (PID 00146434)

Skills:
  • Working knowledge of project methodologies like waterfall and Agile Scrum
  • Advanced knowledge and understanding of tools such as Microsoft Office, Visio, and Microsoft Project.

Experience:
  • Experience with Archer or similar GRC platform and risk management a plus.
  • 3+ years of previous experience engaging with multiple lines of business owners supporting multiple applications.
  • Experience working with tech leads and end-users.
  • Experience with AEP internal processes (financial management, forecasting, CITO governance, ServiceNow, Work order management, etc.)
  • Experience with updating or configuring user-submitted service requests such as notifications, data imports, reports and dashboards.

HR Portfolio (PID 59EV)

Experience:
  • Prior experience working with business partners in the Human Resources department on requirements surrounding benefits, payroll, time reporting, human performance, talent acquisition, and/or training preferred.
  • Prior experience working with the Workday product a plus.

CIT-MVP/Env/Int Strategy (PID 85EV)

Experience: Utility industry experience preferred, agile team experience a must
