WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

The ideal candidate for this Financial Governance & Control, Director Position will have an ability to create strong relationships and a high credibility-factor among the Global Process Owners and Technology organization. This role will be responsible for helping to assess risk across global processes and related enablement technology to ensure effective internal controls exist to mitigate relevant risks. Additionally, this Director will help drive efficiency within the Controlling function by optimizing controls within the organization, with a focus on finding opportunities to rely on automation. A proven track record of achieving common goals, adding partner value and an ability to create positive energy will be required for building and maintaining trust with our business partners, as we implement our internal control over financial reporting ("ICFR") transformation. This Director will have a balance of information technology and business process experience, coupled with an obsession for never compromising anything less than an optimized control suite and exceeding business partner expectations. This role will report to the Senior Director, Financial Governance and Control and lead the team in instructing the first line of defense how to let go of legacy manual processes and adopt technology.

WHAT WILL YOU WORK ON?

In this role you will play a key role in driving Controlling's transformational initiatives where technology unlocks our potential to be a Controlling powerhouse. You will be responsible for seeking out opportunities to use technology in the controlling environment to the greatest extent possible. You will build and maintaining credible and dependable cross-functional relationships, continually making valuable contributions to our team and the teams of our partners within Controlling, Finance and Technology, as well as business partners in other functions.

The ideal candidate will:

  • Specialize in understanding of inter-dependencies between business processes, IT systems and applications
  • Understand business processes and data flows from economic event to financial reporting and disclosures, and validate against process specialists, including the ability to facilitate business process mapping sessions and risk assessments
  • Coordinate with global process owners and technology teams to evaluate the extent and pervasiveness of identified control deficiencies
  • Provide practical guidance and consultation on remediation response to ensure timely and effective remediation of identified control deficiencies
  • Assist in compilation of responses for quarterly CEO and CFO internal control certification process
  • Lead evaluation of new business processes and related technology to determine impact on internal control environment prior to implementation within the global processes
  • Help to develop and coach Financial Governance and Control team members on an ongoing basis and serves as a champion of promoting real-time feedback
  • Maintain appropriate industry expertise and technical knowledge
  • Review and assess technology initiatives for risks as well as short and long-term impacts
  • Translate and communicate efficiently to your partners in non-technical language
  • Implement opportunities for continuous improvement in processes, systems, and procedures
  • Establish key metrics, driving delivery against them with an agile mentality
  • Champion alignment and capability development with other processes and functional areas
  • Review and prioritize initiatives in accordance with the strategic plan and raise for discussion if necessary
  • Lead and participate in steering committees for major programs as needed
  • Review Technology projects for ICFR implications and be the risk and controls voice at the table
  • Stay informed on exceptions, issues, and risks identified for each process and their outcomes
  • Serve as the main point of contact for ongoing performance management with Nike Technology and IT Compliance
  • Coordinate in-depth analysis and performance management of technology control deficiencies via root cause analysis and programs to remediate

WHO WILL YOU WORK WITH?

As part of the Controlling organization reporting to the Senior Director, Finance Governance + Control, you will work cross-functionally with team members from Controlling, Finance, and Technology business units, among others.

WHAT YOU WILL BRING?

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Accounting, Finance, or Management Information System or related field or combination of relevant education, experience, and training
  • 10+ years total experience in Finance, Accounting and/or Technology with focus on risks and controls
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience in a supervisory capacity managing both people and projects
  • Experience in performing multiple projects and working with varying team members
  • CPA or CISA preferred
  • Experience and understanding of finance and controlling processes. Extensive experience working with finance partners on key technology applications and transformation initiatives
  • Experience with finance technologies, process documentation, system documentation, risk assessments through a financial reporting lens and controls
  • Strong critical thinking skills with the ability to identify issues, seek information and impacts, and problem-solve
  • Advanced ability to balance multiple and contending priorities and requests
  • Strong ability to develop high profile, and influential relationships across teams, functions, and layers
  • Enthusiasm for Transformational Change, Technology and Sport

Additionally, the ideal candidate should have ten or more years of business experience, including a blend of internal/external auditing and direct, relevant experience in a combination of one or more of the following areas:

  • Extensive experience in financial statement based auditing and/or financial management is required with a combination of Public Accounting (Big 4) and Internal Audit department experience with a Fortune 500 company with multinational operations
  • In depth understanding of internal control concepts and experience in applying them to plan, perform, manage and report on the evaluation of various business and information technology processes
  • Extensive understanding of the technical aspects of accounting and financial reporting
  • Other direct non audit experience in other business areas such as Business Finance, Corporate Finance, Financial Planning and Analysis, Commercial Business, and Information Technology, etc.
  • Ability to work independently, with limited required direction and guidance, and provide appropriate direction to other team members
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, to effectively present to peers and management
  • Exhibit the leadership skills needed to obtain management support for constructive change
  • Understanding of internal auditing standards, PCAOB standards, COSO Internal Control Framework and risk assessment practices
