Job Summary

The Radiology Technician Assistant is responsible for assisting the imaging technologists, and radiologists with all daily activities of the department as described. These duties include greeting patients and assist in preparing the patients for exams, preparation of the examination rooms, and dismissing the patient after the exam is completed and giving any special instructions needed. Properly identifies all patients for radiology procedures and safely transports or assists them to the radiology exam room. Additional duties include maintaining adequate supplies in exam rooms, answering telephone inquiries, data entry and laundry. Ideal candidates are considered by others to be a people person. Primary functions will include, but are not limited to:

Essential Duties, Responsibilities and Competencies

This position requires a high level of attention to detail and a low error rate, as the consequences of even a minor mistake can be significant for patients and providers. In addition, this position requires regular, reliable attendance.

- Assists with processing medical images and as needed with diagnostic procedures.

- Must have excellent communication skills both oral and written, and active listening skills.

- Transports/escorts patients to dressing /exam rooms and to diagnostic procedures using wheelchairs, carts, beds, stretchers and ancillary equipment.

- Assisting patients with personal care duties such as gowning, escorting to the restrooms, and assisting with patient needs during a procedure.

- Ability to prioritize assignments and work in fast-paced environment.

- Ability to work independently.

- Monitors, receives and stores incoming supplies and alerts appropriate staff when supplies are needed.

- Processes records of radiologic procedures performed and enters data in computer.

- Must have the ability to be empathetic to patients who may be crying, afraid, in pain or angry.

- Must have the ability to enter into a MRI scanning room.

- Performs other duties as necessary and assigned to keep the department running smoothly.

Education and Experience

Customer service experience preferred. Preference may be given to candidates with previous experience in a health care setting. On the job training may be provided to the right candidate. Knowledge of medical terminology preferred. CPR certification required.

Typical Physical Demands

Requires full range of body motion. Sit/Stand - Must be able to remain in a standing position for up to 90% of the time, Move/Traverse “Consistently needs to move about the inside of the exam room and office for patient care, Use hands/fingers to handle or feel- Communicate, Detect, Converse with, Discern, Convey, Express oneself, Exchange information “ Frequently communicates with patients, physicians and co-workersmust be able to exchange accurate information in these situations, Detect, Determine Perceive, Identify, Recognize, Judge, Observe, Inspect, Estimate and assess- Must be able to visually see patient to position, see changes in patients images, see computer to enter information and make changes, Move, Transport, Position- Frequently moves equipment and patients of varying weight.
