JOB DESCRIPTION: Director of Youth and Family Ministries will be responsible for the ministries with middle school and high school students of Nativity Lutheran Church and will oversee denomination-specific spiritual formation for children and youth.

NECESSARY QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:
Mature and curious Christian faith, desire to learn and practice progressive ELCA and ecumenical discipleship
Bachelors Degree
Creative, self-starting, energetic and resilient
Program developer
Eccumenical Collaborator
Culturally Aware
Professional experience in youth work
Competent and comfortable with telephone and interpersonal verbal communication.
Understanding of teenagers, joyful ability to relate with them
Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents and congregation
Ability to recruit, motivate, train and share ministry with volunteer leaders
Ability to plan and conduct programs that will encourage spiritual and emotional growth in students
Ability to develop and execute plans for fundraising
Reliable transportation and valid drivers license
Mature self-care and time management practices
Spanish fluency is desirable
Person in this job shall be subject to routine background checks
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
General
Develop & reorganize Nativity Youth ministry
Develop strong relationships with key congregational leaders by participating in the life of the church.
Develop and maintain relationships with middle and high school students, particularly those who do not attend youth events.
Develop a work presence on campus at local Middle and High school
Work with Pastor and Childrens Minister to develop cradle to college curriculum
Advocate for the well-being and health of students.
Provide pastoral care to students and their families: be personally available to students and leaders as needed, work to ensure that each student knows they are loved and has opportunities to connect with God, with themselves, with others in and outside of the church community.
Notice, affirm and cultivate the gifts of the Spirit in youth.
Offer consistent, effective communication with youth, families, staff and the larger congregation. (1:1 conversations for relational and planning work, text & email for group broadcasts)
Participate in weekly staff meetings
Work with pastor and childrens ministry director to oversee denomination-specific spiritual formation for children and youth.
Participate actively in worship on Sundays
Work with church bookkeeper to manage the budget for congregational youth activities.
Involve youth and families in Nativity social justice and service efforts.
Train adult and youth volunteer leaders: Recruit and empower volunteer youth leaders to act as mentors and educated resource guides for students; conduct training sessions for leaders to continue youth ministry education, develop skills, and provide the latest tools for effective ministry with adolescents.
Act as a resource for parents to connect students with counselors, prayer and community references.
Provide for the overall vision and administration of relational youth ministry.
Youth Collective Responsibilities
Participate in development and co-leadership of an ecumenical youth group.
WORKING RELATIONSHIPS:
Responsible to the Supervising Pastor to coordinate work schedule, vacation days, continuing education days and annual review.
Responsible to work within the guidelines of Nativity documents: Clear Communication Policy, Employee Handbook, and Child Protection Policy.
