Astound Broadband Powered by Wave is currently searching for a UG Groundman III in our Eugene, OR office. This position is responsible for installation and maintenance of underground plant. Replacement of underground plant. Fiber and coax placement through underground conduit.

The primary position responsibilities will include, but are not limited to

:

  • In addition to all UG Construction Groundman II duties
  • Use appropriate hand and power tools to properly measure, cut, bend, assemble and erect all components necessary for lifting, moving and installing plant materials in accordance with the applicable plans, specifications, codes and industry standards.
  • Build underground plant to customer specifications to include: proper depth and records of as built offsets, post work pics displaying clean up achieved.
  • Reports all accidents and near misses to supervisor.
  • Repairs and maintains major cable/fiber system and structures, make ready, VGR’s and all grounding and bonding functions as per NESC code.
  • Deploying and removing various traffic control devices that protect the work area while on a street or roadway.
  • Bolt systems or equipment into place, using hand or power tools.
  • Participate, adhere to and support all safety related policies, processes and programs. Engage with your work team to ensure we achieve zero injuries. Understand that no job is so important that your safety, the safety of your crew, or public safety will be compromised. Watch for hazards and report any concerns to your supervisor or safety professional. If needed, use your stop work authority until the issue is resolved.
  • Operates power equipment such as excavators, compressors, pumps, blowers, jackhammers, and hydraulic tools.
  • Understand and respond appropriately to all safety hazards and warning devices (i.e., back-up alarms, smell of smoke or fumes, different colored warning tag, warning sirens.
  • Comply with Company Code of Conduct and jobsite policies.
  • Perform all other actions necessary to accomplish the foregoing principal duties and accountabilities. This may require working in other crafts at levels appropriate to training and skills as requested by project supervisor.
  • Perform all other job related duties as requested by supervisor.
  • On call rotation responding and restoring services for emergency calls, responsible for being on the job at short notice to repair damaged cables until service is restored.
  • Perform all work as necessary to conform to quality control guidelines (includes compliance with requirements outlined in applicable regulations such as: OSHA, FCC, NESC and NEC, etc.; as well as following procedures as outlined in the Installation, Technical, Operations, and Safety Manuals, and Employee Handbook).

Our ideal candidate will possess

:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Extensive knowledge of telecom OSP craft preferred.
  • Motivated and positive attitude
  • CDL permit required before starting
  • CDL license to be obtained within 6 months of hire
  • Ability to adhere to Local, Federal regulations and Company Policies
  • Groundman, lineman, or similar craft as a helper or laborer, and a basic knowledge of telecom OSP craft preferred.
