DescriptionTo perform court-mandated professional mediation services with parents involved in custody and/or parenting time disputes; and to perform related duties as assigned.Information about position:This temporary Family Mediator will work in the Restorative Services program of the Youth Services division. This position will Inform and empower conflicted parents entering the mediation process; provide quality child custody and parenting time mediation and develop written agreements; teach parent education and other related classes, provide case management and maintain client records.Schedule: Minimum of 20 hours per week; hours to be negotiated/determined upon hire.Temporary positions are budgeted for a maximum of 1,040 hours during the fiscal year beginning July 1, 2019 and ending June 30, 2020.Information about division:Lane County Youth Services (YS) provides assessment, probation, training, counseling, and detention services for all youth, ages 12-17 years old, referred by local law enforcement because of criminal behavior.TRAUMA INFORMED CARE STATEMENTLane County Health & Human Services is committed to providing Trauma Informed Care. We also recognize that the quality and commitment of our staff is essential to a shared future where Lane County is the best place in which to live, work, and play.Examples of Duties - Duties may include, but are not limited to the followingConducts client assessment; obtains appropriate documents; plans and implements intervention to comply with client needs.Meets with clients to facilitate constructive conflict resolution; provides education and referrals to assist clients in improving family relations.Teach classes in related subjects as required.Writes custody and parenting time agreements and plans for clients and attorneys.Completes case-related correspondence; prepares appropriate records and reports.Maintains contact with attorneys and professionals relating to individual cases.May address professional organizations, schools, community agencies, and other interested groups on matters pertaining to the Family Mediation Program.Assists in program planning and evaluation.Minimum QualificationsKnowledge of:Principles, practices and techniques of domestic relations mediation.Principles, practices, methods and techniques of marital, family and parent/child dynamics and child development.Techniques and methods of effective conflict resolution.Domestic relations, confidentiality laws, and the court system.Acceptable alternatives in custody and parenting time.Ability to:Promote and facilitate conflict resolutions.Work effectively within limited time frames with clients of varied backgrounds.Effect constructive change in behavior.Maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.Experience and Training; Additional InformationEducation:Master's or doctoral degree from an accredited college or university in a behavioral science, or a law degree from an accredited law school with substantial course work and/or Continuing Legal Education credits in family law.Experience:Participation in at least 20 cases of domestic relations mediation totaling at least 100 hours, or two years of professional mediation, direct therapy/counseling experience or legal practice with domestic relations or juvenile caseloads, that otherwise satisfies the experience/training requirements for court connected domestic relations mediators.An equivalent combination of experience and training that will demonstrate the required knowledge and abilities as required by OJD Court-Connected Mediator qualifications rules is qualifying.Special Requirements:
