Organizational and Campaign Overview:

Our Childrens Trust (OCT) is a woman-founded human rights organization leading the game-changing, youth-driven, science-based, global climate recovery campaign to secure the legal right to a healthy atmosphere and safe climate for present and future generations. OCT supports youth climate advocates, partner organizations, and volunteer and pro bono legal counsel and scientists in the U.S. and around the globe, in legal actions that seek legally-binding, countrywide and/or statewide science-based Climate Recovery Plans that will return atmospheric carbon dioxide concentrations to levels below 350 ppm by the year 2100. We also work at the grassroots level to support local government efforts to adopt similar plans at the community level.

Position Location: Eugene, Oregon.

Overview of Position:

The Plaintiff Engagement Coordinator (PEC) position supports the overall mission of Our Childrens Trust, by directly supporting the young people the organization supports and supporting the overall Communications and Youth Engagement Team. The PEC works supportively with OCT staff, youth, partner attorneys, legal scholars, law clerks, NGO partners, scientists, and others to carry out the above-described strategic campaign to compel government action to effect systemic science-based climate recovery policies at all levels of government. This position carries a great deal of responsibility in a high intensity, demanding, time-sensitive environment. The position will occasionally require some evening and weekend work in addition to the regular workweek. The position may require occasional travel for out of state court hearings and other plaintiff events.

This Position Reports to: Communications and Youth Engagement Director, Executive Director, and Senior Staff Attorney. The PEC is a part of the Communications and Youth Engagement team and will work closely with the Legal team, and the Public Engagement team as needed.

General Duties and Responsibilities:

— Educate youth, the public, and government and community leaders about fiduciary public trust responsibilities, constitutional rights, atmospheric health, and meaningful climate stabilization through science-based carbon reductions and sequestration;

— Engage youth in the democratic process to protect their rights and enforce government responsibility to reduce carbon emissions by amounts necessary to restore the health of the atmosphere;

— Attend meetings and events as necessary and represent OCT professionally at all times;

— Cultivate partnerships, coordinate, support and guide work with youth and adult partners to advance overall campaign;

— Maintain attentiveness to personal, professional carbon footprint;

— Understand and remain current on scientific prescriptions for climate recovery and related

technical, economic and policy issues;

— Discharge other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Plaintiff Engagement Coordinator Duties and Responsibilities:

— Facilitate a meaningful and engaging experience for youth in their role as plaintiffs and for their families.

— Conduct regular check-ins with all youth plaintiffs in U.S. state and federal cases to track the work they are doing around their case(s), including: speaking engagements, media requests. Assess plaintiffs satisfaction with their level of engagement and how to increase or decrease activities. Inquire about and report any security incidents.

— Insure that plaintiffs families are informed of plaintiff engagement and demands, as appropriate.

— Develop, propose and implement regular wellbeing assessments for U.S. youth plaintiffs to ensure they have the support they need.

— In conjunction with legal team, track U.S. plaintiffs climate events/impacts they have experienced since their latest legal filings, including physical and mental health impacts, and inform the legal team.

— Coordinate communications between the legal team and plaintiffs as requested.

— Organize and facilitate monthly Zoom meetings with federal plaintiffs and quarterly (that

can become more frequent) Zoom meetings with state plaintiffs, or as requested by the

legal team.

— Develop and implement a comprehensive outreach and onboarding process for new state

and global plaintiffs in collaboration with the legal team and public engagement team.

— Organize and implement plaintiff retreats.

— Coordinate and implement plaintiff media trainings in collaboration with the

Communications team, and other trainings/offerings for plaintiff/family support

— Research, propose and organize staff trainings as necessary to ensure best practices in

inclusivity when working with youth.

— Prepare appropriate security protocols for plaintiff events for review and approval by

Executive Director and Deputy Director.

— Draft mass emails to supporters when necessary.

— Liaise between Public Engagement team and plaintiffs in planning events and outreach

work.

— Liaise between Legal team and plaintiffs in developing legal documents, including plaintiff

statements for complaints, declarations, testimony, depositions or other legal

requirements.

— Liaise between OCTs travel agents and plaintiffs and families for all air travel. Coordinate

all other travel logistics for plaintiffs and families.

— Coordinate all bookings (hotels, cars, etc) for travel events with plaintiffs.

— Act as OCTs point person for, serve as lead chaperone during plaintiff events, and

supervise all other contract youth chaperones.

— Develop calendar for internal staff support services.

— Facilitate engagement with participating youth (and parents when necessary), ensuring they are comfortable and informed and that more youth learn of opportunities with OCT.

— Work with Global legal team to develop an appropriate Plaintiff engagement strategy for

international plaintiffs in each country.

— Assist OCTs Communications and Youth Engagement team with other work as necessary.

— Represent OCT professionally and effectively to a wide variety of constituencies and

serve as a liaison for partners internally.

Reporting Duties and Responsibilities:

— Report internally as requested on plaintiff engagement updates/progress. Preferred Qualifications

— Passion for science-based climate justice and local-low-carbon living.

— An interest in working with youth, families, and diverse partners.

— BA/BS in related field or corresponding experience.

— Two years experience working with youth, in media or marketing and communications or

in climate advocacy.

— Experience working with a small grassroots team in fast-paced advocacy settings.

— Experience working both independently and collaboratively.

— Experience working with youth from diverse backgrounds.

— Experience working with local potential Eugene partners (businesses, ngos, schools, etc).

— Competency working with and willingness to learn social media tools, online sharing,

Google docs, creating and designing outreach materials, and website editing.

— Skilled in creating, editing, and promoting written and visual content.

— Excellent communicator, both written and verbal, with high attention to detail and

organization skills.
