The primary purpose of this position is to oversee our Accounting team at Pacific Retirement Services and related affiliate and managed organizations. This individual will oversee all of our primary accounting operations and functions via 2 direct reports: our assistant corporate controller and our accounting operations manager. In total this position oversees roughly 25 FTEs. This individual will report directly to the CFO.Who We Are: Pacific Retirement Services is a non-profit senior living provider based out of Medford, Oregon. Our central office provides shared services in the form of Accounting, IT, HR, Media, and core management services to all of our entities. We own/operate 12 CCRCs in 6 states. Under the Community Housing banner, we have 25 Affordable housing (HUD) properties across Oregon, California, and Texas. Ensures the audits are completed in a timely manner and that auditors? work and time is minimized through effective accounting systems; ensures any concerns included in the management letters issued by auditors are addressed and, where economically feasible, recommendations are implemented.Ensure effective internal controls are established within the PRS Accounting Department, as well as in the Business Office of the affiliated and managed communitiesResponsible for ensuring the timely implementation of accounting processes and policies to any new organization. This includes management contracts within which accounting services are provided, or for new facilities being developed.Oversee the day-to-day general ledger accounting and financial reporting, which includes the month-end close process and financial statements, for all related and managed entities under PRS and PRS Management Inc.Continually evaluate and work with IT to impliment new application, systems, etc, in a timely and organized manner.Organize the accounting department to achieve business objectives/needs. This includes working with Human Resources to recruit and hire qualified personnel and to periodically evaluate accounting personnel performance.Identify and recommend key operating indicators for reporting.Identify, evaluate, and update internal controls, policies and procedures, to ensure accounting transactions are made in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles. Provide sound financial policies that reflect business judgment as well as financial control.Responsible for creating a common policy guide for each CCRC. Oversees working relationship between corporate accounting personnel and facility personnel.This position requires a significant advanced knowledge of the accounting and business field including an understanding of the theoretical basis and some general knowledge of related fields, usually the result of a minimum of four (4) years of college with a BA/BS degree in accounting or business and several years in designated field. Prior experience as a controller, CFO, or VP of Accounting is highly recommended. 2 to 4 years of supervisory experience in accounting or finance. Certified Public Accountant (CPA) certification preferred. Requires prior experience in an accounting setting and direct experience with computerized accounting systems and/or microcomputers.Requires a strong understanding of generally accepted accounting principles, business contracts, payroll regulations, and other outside reporting principles and regulations.
