Street 14 Cafe in Astoria is hiring a General Manager.

Summary: The General Manager is responsible for maintaining Street 14 Cafes values: a team-spirited work environment, welcoming and empathetic customer service and support of local food producers. You will manage both back- and front-of-house staff in collaboration with an assistant manager and team leaders.

Management Responsibilities

Cultivating human resources:

Hiring new staff (in collaboration with FOH and BOH leads)

Training staff (in collaboration with FOH and BOH leads)

Supervising staff (monitoring interactions, ensuring smooth working relationships)

Scheduling staff (in collaboration with FOH and BOH leads)

Maintaining Street 14 culture vis-a-vis staff and customers:

Setting the tone (professional, respectful, courteous)

Enforcing dining room policies (maintaining respectful atmosphere, pets and service animals, appreciation of regular customers, crowd management)

Problem solving

Managing Budgets

Monitoring labor costs and maintaining labor budget (in collaboration with financial manager)

Overseeing inventory management and ordering (in collaboration with FOH and BOH leads)

Creating sales projections and planning for busy periods (in collaboration with financial manager)

Operations Management

Ensuring compliance with licensing, hygiene and health and safety standards

Maintaining equipment (in collaboration with FOH and BOH leads)

Event Management

Plan, schedule, and execute special events (in collaboration with owners, FOH and BOH leads)

Manage special orders and catering requests

Manager Skills and Competencies

Knowledge of restaurant and coffee industry

Well begin reviewing applications in August, and will continue to do so on a rolling basis until the positions are filled.

Our intention is to hire an Assistant Manager as well as a General Manager. The Assistant will support the GMs work of maintaining Street 14 Cafes values: a team-spirited work environment, welcoming and empathetic customer service and support of local food producers. The specific division of labor between General Manager and Assistant Manager will be determined when the positions are filled, to reflect the strengths of each individual.
