Summary:This position directly supports the Realty Specialist Team Lead for the Danger Tree function within Real Property Support Services. Real Property Support Services is responsible for providing forestry expertise and other related real property technical support to assist and support the upkeep of BPA’s right-of-ways and corridors. This position involves extended overnight travel, up to 75% out of town and 25% office, throughout the (BPA) service area of Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Western Montana, Northern Nevada, Northern California and Western Wyoming.

Education & Applicable Fields:Associates or Bachelor’s degree in a forestry-related field such as geography, natural resources, environmental planning is highly preferred.

Education & Experience Requirements:• Level 2:o With an applicable Bachelor’s degree, 2 years of work-related skill, knowledge experience is required.o With an applicable Associate’s Degree, 4 of work-related skill, knowledge experience is requiredo Without an applicable degree, 8 years of work related skill, knowledge and experience is required.o Experience must include forestry and forestry production, engineering or natural resource experience, and must incorporate a diversified knowledge of natural resource principles and practical experience.

Additional Requirements / Skills:• Position is physically active and may require the following:o Perform physical activities that require considerable use of arms and legs and moving the whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, & handling of materials.o Drive and/or wench a four wheel drive vehicle on rough and difficult roads in all types of weather conditions.o Running, maneuvering, navigating, or driving vehicles or mechanized equipment, such as forklifts, passenger vehicles, aircraft, or water craft.o Lifting and carrying equipmento Walking on uneven terrain for extended periods of timeo Keeping or regaining the body’s balance or stay upright when in an unstable positiono Standing for long periods of timeo Frequent walking, bending, stretching, twisting, reaching and stoopingo Lifting, pushing, pulling or carrying heavy objectso Using muscles for long periods of time without getting tiredo Being physically active for long periods of time without getting tired or out of breatho Use government-equipped field vehicles, firefighting tools (shovel, Pulaski ax, machete, peavey, fire extinguisher, backpack fire suppression sprayer) and safety equipment.Note: The Operation of Chain Saws or gas powered hedge trimmers is expressly prohibited under thisposition.

Typical Tasks may include:Note: Final drafts, documents or other products must be reviewed and approved by a BPA Federal employee withthe authority to do so.• Monitor activities of logging companies and/or contractors.• Select and mark trees for thinning or logging, drawing detailed plans that include access roads.• Survey, measure, and map access roads and forest areas.• Patrol park or forest areas to protect resources and prevent damage.• Provide information about, and enforce, regulations such as those concerning environmental protection, resource utilization, fire safety and accident prevention.Specific Tasks may include:• Assist with the preparation of Danger Tree preliminary estimates used for planning purposes.• Assist with the preparation and review of Danger Tree reports; prepare exhibits for inclusion in Danger Tree reports.• Analyze Danger Tree data and landowner comments received during conversations with the public either in person or in the public meeting processes.• Analyze Danger Tree appraisal data in peg books for accuracy and applicability.• Process paperwork to help landowners receive compensation for Danger Trees through electric funds transfers, Treasury Checks or BPA checks.• Assist BPA Danger Tree Staff regarding settlement offers.• Field calls for BPA Danger Tree Staff regarding landowner comments and requests. Appropriately log in these calls and tracks them for timely response.• Assist with the coordination and direction of assignments and activities of Danger Tree BPA or Contract Real Property Staff temporarily deployed to the region as a part of a large-scale project.• Provide courthouse real property research• Answer landowner and field inquiries as to the extent and use of BPA property rights. Answer questions to the regions, providing advice to maintenance and construction in support of their programs.• Assist the DT Crew Members in the field with peg book recordation and tree marking activities on the right-or-ways. This includes travel to various locations throughout BPA’s system and the use of Government-equipped field vehicles, firefighting tools (shovel, Pulaski ax, machete, peavey, fire extinguisher, backpack fire suppression sprayer) and safety equipment. The Operation of Chain Saws or gas powered hedge trimmers is expressly prohibited under this position.
