Job Overview:The Systems Analyst/Engineer is a Sr. Engineering position and must possess and continue to develop newer IP and software based telecommunications skills as well as working knowledge of legacy telecom tools & processes. The successful employee will be working on IP Telephony, contact centers, voicemail, converged applications, virtual machines, and python scripting in addition to legacy hardware, business practices, and built environments. This position will need a working understanding of Wide Area Network Services, Network Security, WiFi, Low Voltage, Cable Management, Data Center Network Operations, Project Management, and related disciplines needed to deliver communications services to end customers.
  • Incumbents are proficient in troubleshooting and root cause analysis using the scientific method of refining a problem statement and queuing up a series of increasingly specific tests to isolate the problem. Necessarily, this requires specialized knowledge for the equipment and services for which the analyst/engineer is directly responsible. In addition, expert broad based knowledge is used to troubleshoot integrated applications suites, services running across hybrid network architectures, virtualized servers or desktops, load balanced web farms, firewalled VPNS, etc.
  • In this context, the Systems Analyst/Engineer is also distinguished by a broad spectrum and high degree of technical skills/experience, and the ability to effectively multi-task across job roles and across multiple technology platforms. Lastly, this position is distinguished by a requirement to respond to a continuously changing technology environment rapidly and dynamically.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree, and five years of progressively responsible Information Technology related experience leading to proven proficiency and subject matter expertise in the areas outlined within the class specification; OR
  • 3 years working with Cisco systems IP telephony: call manager, voicemail, contact center, voice recording, E911 services, belt paging and UC gateways.
  • Experience in designing, implementing and supporting new communications infrastructure
  • Experience using a structured project management process to manage projects
  • Experience in supporting mission critical systems in 24x7 multiple production environments
  • Experience with troubleshooting IP protocols.
  • Service failure analysis and troubleshooting
  • Application installation and configuration
  • Understanding of Microsoft Networks at the operating system level, file/directory security, and user account level
  • Enterprise experience with systems administration, scripting
  • Proven ability to effectively multitask
  • Advanced, broad-based “IT technical generalist” skills
  • Advanced and proven technology analytic skills that demonstrate accepted systems analysis processes including expert skills for root cause analysis

Expert Knowledge
  • IP Telephony methodology and practice: Call Manager, Contact Center, Voicemail, QOS, Gateways, PSTN, Converged Applications.
  • Network architectures and topologies
  • TCP/IP, UDP/IP
  • Routing Protocols (OSPF, BGP, EIGRP)
  • Data Communications Equipment (Routers, Switches, etc.)
  • Network Management Tools (SNMP, Sniffer, CiscoWorks, etc.)
  • Premise Distribution Systems (Fiber, Copper Cabling Systems, etc.)
  • Security Toolsets: VPN, Firewalls, advanced ACL methods and knowledge of IT security best practices and processes

  • Power Systems: Remote Power Supplies, UPS, Generators, power loading, etc.
  • Network QOS methodologies and practice
  • Structured Project Management best practices Change control processes
  • Network security at the operating system level, file/directory level, and user account level.
  • Storage Area Networks (SAN)
  • Server cluster concepts
  • Web Infrastructure
  • Directory services (Microsoft Active Directory, LDAP interfaces, etc.)
  • One or more: Scripting and/or programming languages such as, or equivalent to Perl, UNIX Shell, C Shell, .NET, Visual Basic, Java, HTML, etc.

Preferred:
  • Highly experienced with network routing protocols, QOS and related network services.
  • Highly experienced with synchronous communications protocols, SIP, streaming video, etc.
  • Experience in a Heath Care, Research and/or Academic environment
  • Experience with large-scale Microsoft networks
  • Experience in a large network and campus environment (>10,000 users)
  • Highly experienced with scripting/programming in Python, Powershell, C# or other industry standard toolset.
  • Formal Project Management Training (PMI) (PMP)
  • Working knowledge of Mitel phone systems.
  • Voice mail systems
  • Multicast paging systems (alpha/text RF paging)
  • Unified Communications Call Center Engineering and Support
  • Core and end-user messaging systems including Edge Appliances, Email Firewall, UNIX Sendmail, MS Exchange, POP/IMAP, Paging, other messaging systems and gateways
  • Visio and Smartsheet
  • Advanced Routing (Multiple AS BGP, Route redistribution between protocols, multiple path diagnostics)
  • Additional network types: Custom Wireless Solutions, WDM, SONET, T1, Frame Relay, etc.
  • Experience using a formalized change control system.
  • Working knowledge of Multi-Protocol-Label-Switching methodologies and practice
  • Knowledge and ability to effectively use a structured project management system.
