Oregon, Portland 00000 Portland USA

The classroom is located in a peaceful setting with a creek and forest just outside the door. On nice days, you can sit outside at lunchtime and breaks to enjoy observing the birds, squirrels, ducks, rabbits and even, occasionally, deer.

Cost: The tuition for the NA-1 class is $1000 . This includes the tuition , the textbook and other written materials, the background check necessary for admission, the drug screen , the tuberculin skin test , a blood pressure cuff , a stethoscope and a gait belt .

What is not included: The fee paid to the OSBN to take the state test to become certified ($106), the cost of the fingerprint background check that is arranged by the OSBN ($64.50), the cost of the Basic Life Support CPR class required by the OSBN (roughly $50), and scrubs required for the clinical setting.

You should also know: If, after completing the course, passing the state test and having your certification (license) issued by the OSBN you go to work in a Medicare and/or Medicaid certified nursing home, the nursing home is required by law to reimburse all your training costs to you within three months. This money is in addition to your regular paycheck.

Requirements: You must be able to pass a criminal background check, a drug screen and be able to speak, read, write and understand the English language.

A criminal conviction does not necessarily exclude most people, so check with me if you have a question about your background.

Please note that even though marijuana is legal in the state of Oregon, some clinical sites will not allow people to participate in the clinical experience if their drug screen comes up positive for marijuana.

Schedule: The upcoming class runs between January 7th and February 20th. The schedule for it is available on the Clackamas Nursing Assistant Training website. www.ClackamasCNA.com. The next class begins in March 4th.

Classes are daytime only. There is no class on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays or holidays.

The law requires that students attend all scheduled hours with the following exception: one makeup day is included in the schedule for the classroom portion of the class and one makeup day is included for the clinical portion. If you do not miss a day, you do not need to attend the makeup days.

CPR class requirement: The OSBN requires that NA students complete a CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) class that specifically is for healthcare providers and is called Basic Life Support. I have an instructor named Cathy who is certified by the American Heart Association to provide this class and she usually comes in during one day of class. She charges $50 per student. You are NOT required to take this class from Cathy. You may take the CPR class from other instructors/CPR businesses. But the class MUST meet the requirements of the OSBN.

How to dress: You may wear whatever you wish to the classroom (as long as the basics are covered)jeans, sweats, etc. But during the clinical experience you MUST wear scrubs that appear neat and clean. They can be any color or style and they don't have to be new.

Some other things you should know about my program: It is NOT associated with Clackamas Community College or any other school. It IS approved by the OSBN. October 1st marked the eleven year anniversary of the start of my first class for this business, although I had taught for other companies prior to opening. I've taught this course at least 75 times. I am a Registered Nurse. My classroom is located in my home. The pictures you see on my website are the actual classroom. It has its own entrance, its own bathroom and two sinks in the classroom because many of the skills we practice require water (handwashing, bed baths, mouth care, etc.). My program is smallI take a maximum of 10 students per class. My class is also much more casual than what you might find in other programs. There is always coffee, tea and hot chocolate and often there are snacks. Students do not sit at desks. We all sit around a big table. (I was going to replace the table with desks but students said they preferred the table!) The classroom windows overlook a little forest with a creek and lots of wildlife. There is a cat on the premises. The textbook is small250 pagesbut you MUST read the book! The current plan for the clinical site is a facility located in southeast Portland.

Please call Lyn at 503-709-6560 for questions or to get started.
