Schwabe, Williamson & Wyatt has an immediate opening in its Portland office for an experienced Intellectual Property (IP) prosecution Docketing Specialist to provide docketing services to the firms large IP practice group. The Docketing department handles calendaring and reporting for patents and trademarks, both US and foreign cases. The position, which reports to the IP Docketing Supervisor, offers the opportunity to work in a fast paced, challenging, and friendly environment.

Required skills and qualifications include 3+ years of current patent/trademark docketing experience. Acceptable substitutions include 3+ years of patent paralegal experience or other IP experience that gives candidate a high level of knowledge of patent and/or trademark calendaring rules. The ideal candidate will have knowledge of IP prosecution law as it applies to docketing workflows. Experience with Inprotech software will be preferred. The ability to communicate frequently, professionally, and knowledgeably with paralegals, attorneys, and staff is essential. The position requires excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to steadily perform under continuous and sometimes heavy workloads with daily deadlines. Applicants should be able to handle flexible work assignments and desire to work as part of a team. Individuals not meeting at least one of the specific IP experience requirements will not be considered.

Examples of duties include: enter, update, and clear deadlines in computerized docketing system; review cases for docket accuracy; open cases and associate family relationships; close cases; prepare docket reports for attorneys and paralegals; download documents from the USPTO PAIR website; communicate frequently with paralegals regarding docket requests and case updates; notify paralegals of annuities and renewal deadlines; answer questions from new legal assistants as needed to familiarize them with the docketing software.
