Edelman PNW has an exciting opportunity for an Account Executive in either our Portland or Seattle office! This vital position will support our corporate team and provide the opportunity to work on a diverse range of corporate, consumer and technology clients. This is a great multi-discipline opportunity to bring your experience in public relations and your understanding of issues management, finance regulations, health initiatives, employee communications, public involvement and media relations to Edelman. Not to mention, you’ll be surrounded by really smart (and fun) people!

You will be responsible for the execution and supervision of account work performed by more junior staff, and working closely with senior staff to manage and deliver on projects. You will demonstrate the ability to manage up as well as manage across with her peers and mentor account team members. You will learn Edelman’s various consulting processes/approaches, including crisis and issues management, public engagement, message workshops, master narrative assignments, brand engagement, social media campaigns and stakeholder mapping exercises and be able to support account teams in the execution of these processes for clients. Expected competencies include

Client Service:

  • Demonstrate understanding of key client information, including general business strategy, industry trends and issues, products/ services, key opinion leaders, customers and competitors

  • Contribute to creation of communications plans to meet client objectives

  • Manage multiple projects for multiple clients from concept to completion by anticipating challenges, troubleshooting problems, proposing solutions, offering client counsel, overseeing quality, and ensuring deadline and budget adherence

  • Contribute to client correspondence (i.e., daily updates, activity reports, etc.)

  • Play key role in developing key messages in keeping with clients’ objectives

  • Demonstrate the ability to write, edit and proofread to create high quality internal and external communications content

  • Demonstrate the ability to maintain calm in high-stress client environments

  • Demonstrate an understanding of the differences in writing styles depending on the outlet, channel and audience (online, social network, traditional media, etc.)

  • Demonstrate research abilities to support client programs

  • Coordinate and help plan media outreach programs including tours, events, conferences, VNR/B-roll, interviews and new media outreach

  • Demonstrate the ability to work efficiently in issues/crisis scenarios

  • Demonstrate practical understanding of visual communications, desktop multimedia, social media and the digital landscape and how to incorporate these into client programs

  • Demonstrate an understanding of research techniques to assist with various Edelman consulting processes, including analysis of media coverage and online conversation (volume and tone), and identification and categorization of various stakeholders, including organizations and individuals to be engaged by clients

  • Communicate effectively with team members

People Engagement:

  • Oversee work products of more junior staff to ensure quality and consistency

  • Coach and support more junior staff providing challenging opportunities for growth

  • Provide ongoing, constructive feedback to junior staff consistently

  • Work closely with senior staff for project management and delivery

  • Take responsibility for personal tactical growth and development using available resources

Business Development:

  • Participate in new business process, including research, audits, idea contribution and proposal preparation

  • Develop network of industry contacts; participate in relevant professional associations

  • Participate in cross-practice and cross-geographical teams to provide clients and prospects with the most compelling team and proposal

Leadership:

  • Demonstrate effective supervisory and effective task delegation abilities by setting clear expectations and deadlines, providing needed resources, monitoring progress and providing feedback

  • Live “in color” – and encourage junior staff to do so – by exploring and being active in the world outside of work, including the arts, culture, politics, literature, charitable organizations and/or other personal passions

Product Capability and Development:

  • Learn about Edelman’s various capabilities and intellectual property

  • Contribute ideas about how to improve current capabilities and develop new ones

  • Aid in the implementation of new capabilities

  • Stay up to date with emerging technologies and trends and demonstrate understanding of how they integrate into communications programs

  • The account executive must have at least 1 year of relevant experience in public relations and/or related fields including research, advertising, management consulting, media and publishing

  • S/he will have a proven ability to lead and manage multiple small or medium-sized projects simultaneously

  • S/he will have a clear understanding of her/his clients’ businesses and their missions, as well as their key stakeholders consumers, employees, investors, regulators, media, vendors, partners and other businesses/organizations, etc.

  • S/he will have demonstrated ability to help develop communications plans, implement public relations tactics and impart knowledge to junior account team members

  • S/he should be able to perform well under pressure and be a team player

  • S/he will have good research, writing and editing skills, as well as the ability to interact with clients professionally and maintain relationships with media members

  • Previous agency experience is highly preferred
