This is an exciting opportunity to take one of the largest volunteer programs in the Portland, Oregon region to new heights by bringing together two separately administered programs into one centralized program. The Volunteer Program Manager will bring together the retail program with the homebuilding program to support volunteer needs across the entire organization, including: four retail locations, several homebuilding construction sites, the volunteer based business engagement program, and office volunteer needs. This individual reports directly to the VP of Resource Development while also receiving key directives from the VP of Retail Operations.

The Volunteer Program Manager will nurture a volunteer culture and spearhead a unified approach across the organization to ensure that the Habitat for Humanity Portland/Metro East volunteer experience continues to be top notch. The ideal candidate will have a passion for the spirit of volunteerism and a commitment to staying on top of the most current practices in this growing field. We are looking for a solution-oriented individual who thrives on social interaction and putting practices in place to nourish and grow volunteer relationships.

The Volunteer Program Manager will have one direct report - the Volunteer Program Coordinator. This is a full-time, exempt position with an annual starting salary of $45,698 – $57,125, commensurate with experience. Key Responsibilities

Central Management and Program Development

  • Develop, implement, and review policies and procedures that guide the volunteer programs and services, and reflect the overall values of the organization

  • Identify and lead the implementation of overarching program goals and directives

  • Develop a strong internal team that excels at relationship building and reaching overall program goals

  • Train the Trainer content: build and maintain training structure and materials for training staff from other departments who lead volunteers

  • Create and maintain volunteer facing content: job descriptions, onboarding and training materials

  • Supervise Volunteer Program Coordinator to implement program goals and directives

  • Work closely with homebuilding and retail leadership to identify opportunities and allocate resources

  • Manage relationships with job training organizations that seek volunteer opportunities with Habitat

  • Assist with volunteer program budget development; administer expenditures within approved limit

  • Represent the volunteer perspective at all organizational discussions, and serve as an advocate for volunteers both individually and as a whole

Manage Volunteer Digital Experience and Data

  • Ensure optimal digital experience loop for volunteers from initial interest, to scheduling, to feedback

  • Provide software guidance and support to staff as needed

  • Maintain clean data through a commitment to best practice standards

  • Analyze and evaluate program metrics to improve volunteer program

  • Deliver monthly reporting on volunteer program KPIs

  • Work with communications department to ensure consistent branding and exciting content

Coaching Front-Line Volunteer Staff: Onboarding, Appreciation, Retention

  • Train front-line volunteer staff to ensure that volunteers have a top-notch experience in every location across the organization

  • Provide learning and professional development opportunities for the volunteer program team

  • Lead monthly meetings, including new staff orientation, ongoing training and location check-ins to discuss program updates, goal setting, troubleshooting, and support

  • Maintain a consistent presence at each volunteer location to develop and strengthen relationships

. Requirements:

  • Ability to build a team rapport both remotely and in person
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills, including ability to effectively communicate with people of diverse backgrounds and/or with varied language skills

  • Skilled at creating an atmosphere that fosters an open sharing of ideas, concerns, and hopes

  • Understand and embrace the volunteer perspective

  • Proficient in current technology, including Microsoft and Google platforms, volunteer database management, and social media platforms

  • Knowledge of trends and resources in volunteerism

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to work independently while managing multiple deadlines and staying organized

  • Exemplary leadership skills; positive disposition and even temperament

  • Proven problem-solving skills, including supervising unexpected issues and emergencies

  • Commitment to affordable housing development and the mission of Habitat

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience

  • Supervisory and Coaching or Training experience

  • Four years minimum of multi-site volunteer program management experience

  • Two years minimum of related customer service experience

  • Or an equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Extensive experience volunteering

Preferred Qualifications

  • Volunteer management certificate

  • Experience with Galaxy Digital’s Get Connected software or similar platform

Work Environment and Physical Demands

  • This job operates in open retail warehouse environments, at construction sites, and in an office environment

  • The warehouse and construction sites require this employee to be very active, with consistent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing

  • This employee must occasionally lift, move, and/or load items over 50 pounds with mechanical assistance and/or a team lift

  • The office is a fast-paced, business casual environment (currently adjusted due to COVID-19)

  • This employee will routinely use standard office equipment such as computers, phones, and printers

  • This position requires local travel between organization locations in the employee’s personal vehicle
