Small Aerospace & Defense machine shop located in South Salem near Salem McNary Field Airport seeks a journeyman machinist and planner.

REQUIREMENTS:

1. Plan manufacturing operations from start to finish (create routers or shop travelers)

o Understand milling and turning operations and their application (e.g., face milling, side milling, O.D & I.D. turning, drilling, boring, reaming, etc.)

o Understand special machining operations and their application (e.g., honing, grinding, EDM, etc.)

o Understand order of operations

o Understand machinability of different materials

o Understand the effects of metal enhancement processes like heat treating on subsequent operations

o Design workpiece holding fixtures

2. Create operation sheets for CNC programmers to use in writing programs that ensure:

o Selection of appropriate cutting tools and cutting data (speeds and feeds)

o Safety and stability during machining

o Ability to produce part features with required surface finishes and drawing tolerances.

- Set up CNC machines and proof programs

o Read and edit G code and M code

o Familiar with Fadal and Fanuc controls

- Manual mill and lathe experience to the extent necessary for secondary operations and building fixtures

- Ability to troubleshoot and solve problems when operations do not go according to plan

- Demonstrate effective leadership

3. Cultural Fit

o Ability to manage others

o Ability to work with Management Team to meet customer due dates

o Ability to work with subcontractors on technical questions or problems

We are a low volume, high-precision manufacturer, with an average order size of between 5-25 pieces. Part sizes are mostly shoebox sized or smaller. The work is very diverse, from aluminum, to stainless, alloy steel, titanium, bronze, and many others. Our shop culture emphasizes quality machining over speed.

We are an ISO9001 certified shop, subject to regular third-party audits. Keeping a clean and orderly work station is a must.

We are currently running one (1) shift, from 7am-3:30pm, M-F (40 hours). 90 day probationary period req'd. Health care is Kaiser Permanente at 80% (current out of pocket is $220 per mo. including dental & vision). PTO accrued monthly, up to one (1) week in year one. After 3 years PTO is 2 weeks, and after 3 years, PTO increases to 3 weeks. All major holidays paid off, plus one (1) week paid off between Christmas and New Years Eve.
