Job Description

The Group Leader – Production applies diverse professional knowledge and proficiencies gained through previous work experience. In addition, the incumbent is required to select appropriate approaches and techniques which generally are not found in established work procedures.

  • Determines the work requirements for employees within the department.
  • Authorizes or controls the expense budget for the department.
  • Receives guidance regarding what is to be accomplished rather than how it is to be accomplished, and develops functional policies and objectives.
  • Regularly interacts with all levels within the organization as well as external customers and vendors.
  • Provides support to Shift and Team Leader on wide variety of subjects, including technical and personnel-related issues. Consistently appraises performance of team members and recommends changes in salary, promotion and transfer of employees. May be responsible for cross-function teams.
  • Supervise associates with in depth technical knowledge on the following fields: welding, wiring and electrical, hydraulic (plumbing), hydraulic (schematics)
  • Counsel, develop and train employees to achieve both company goals and individual career goals.
  • Manage the key metrics (Quality, productivity, 5S, value stream delivery performance, OEE, and others), utilizing CIP, BPS and TPM tools to improve Safety, Cost, Quality and Delivery.
  • Create, implement, and maintain Standardized Work instructions.
  • Performs other essential and related peripheral duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering or related technical field from an accredited institution (ex. CHEA) with five years’ experience in a manufacturing setting OR an associate’s degree in a technical field with 8 years’ experience in a manufacturing setting.
  • Experience in leading teams and work groups including hourly and exempt associates along with the ability to delegate tasks and effectively manage resources to meet business targets.
  • Demonstrated success implementing BPS principles (pull, waste elimination, perfect quality, etc.), 5S, Point CIP, Value Stream Mapping & Design, lead time reduction, Standardized Work, and continuous flow.
  • Effective organizational skills with successful prioritization and planning strategies.
  • Structured problem solving skills including familiarity with “5-why” root cause analysis, PDCA, and 8-D methodology.
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills. Experience with direct customer contact and the resolution of plant issues; this includes the communication of technical issues when necessary.
  • Ability to fairly apply established standards, policies and procedures in meeting business objectives.
  • Proactive in learning and applying new/progressive technologies and methods.
