Animal Care TechnicianElkins Park, PAMonday-Friday, 9AM-5PM (some flexibility)4+ Month ContractPay: $22/hrKelly Science & Clinical is interviewing and hiring immediately for an Animal Care Technician! This is a 4+ month contract opportunity to cover someone on leave, with potential for extension or additional opportunities. This position will provide direct animal care and maintenance of animal caging equipment in a safe, humane, and sanitary manner.ResponsibilitiesPerforms animal husbandry duties including but not limited to:
Changing of animal cages and related cage accessories, feeding and water bottles
Preparing caging for cage washer, including breaking down caging, dumping, and scraping cages and process cages and other accessories in cage washer.
Assemble sanitized caging and process in autoclave
Assemble sanitized water bottles, then fill and process in autoclave
Ability to operate animal facility equipment including but not limited to cage/rack washer and autoclaves.
Completes room maintenance records, as directed by set regulations, including but not limited to animal viability checks, housing environment checks, animal food and water checks.
Performs and maintains sanitation including but not limited to sweep/wash floors, sanitize racks, flush & clean drains, clean sinks, change exhaust filters, and wash walls.
Performs all work assignments in accordance with IACUC policies & procedures, and SOPs.
Attends departmental, training and safety meetings as required.
Other related duties as assigned.
QualificationsHigh School Diploma or GED equivalent required ; Bachelor’s degree preferred
AAALAS Certification preferred
Previous experience in an animal research facility highly preferred
Ability to read, write and comprehend English.
Ability to follow both written and verbal instructions.
Ability to explain problems/issues/solutions.
Must be service oriented and able to work as a team member.
Must possess care and concern for animal welfare
Work EnvironmentPosition requires working closely with animals in an animal research environment.
Position requires a high degree of physical work effort including but not limited to: bending, lifting (up to 50 lbs.), squatting, pushing/pulling, reaching and long periods of standing.
Required use of personal protective equipment (PPE) including uniforms and respiratory protection.
May be designated as essential personnel during a storm/natural disaster.
