typical work day will begin at 7:30 AM and

is initially remote; however, the expectation is

ultimately working onsite. When the transition from working remote to working onsite occurs, then the manager is looking at scaling in

onsite probably two days a week.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

This position will have a special emphasis on supporting the existing and expanding network infrastructure. This is highly advanced technical position focused on the architecture, design, monitoring, and the management of an increasingly complex network. The selected candidate will be responsible for assisting in the highest level of network planning for the long-term vision for the delivery center’s network infrastructure. This position will have a strong focus on the design, support, and documentation of the expanding

statewide Enterprise fiber optic network. IED is primarily a

Cisco shop with over 5,000 network devices and 10,000 users at approximately 1,000 remote locations. The IED WAN is comprised of MPLS, BGP, Metro-E networks with numerous VRFs and security zones. Some sites have redundant connections and are load balanced across connections, while others have more simple connections. IED also utilizes

Silver Peak SD-WAN at approximately 200 locations with intentions to expand, so experience with SD-WAN related technologies is a bonus.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:The selected candidate will be responsible for

providing technical support for planning, designing, maintaining, and integrating local and wide area network infrastructure and will have input into the

architecture deployed throughout the Enterprise. The selected candidate must be able to communicate well and needs to be a highly technical and eager individual with

numerous years of experience in a large enterprise environment. This position will have a special emphasis on supporting the existing and

expanding network infrastructure at the PennDOT Regional Traffic Management Center (RTMC).

CCNA and CCNP certificates or higher are preferred, but candidates with demonstrable levels of commensurate hands-on experience will be considered. DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:Installs, configures, maintains, monitors, and manages

network infrastructure consisting of

Cisco switches, routers, firewalls, and wireless LAN controllers, Silver Peak SD-WAN edge appliances, and all associated hardware and software.

Performs Network Management functions utilizing various industry tools to monitor, test, verify, troubleshoot and resolve complex Delivery Center network problems by working with users, service providers, and others to resolve problems. Assists in the planning and design of

LAN/WAN network architecture including:
  • Network bandwidth analysis and capacity planning.
  • Detailed specifications and schematic engineering drawings for network enhancements and modifications.

Supports network-attached systems utilized by PennDOT RTMC, including the support of the

network-based traffic cameras and corresponding video systems (

Genetec). Participates in the ongoing design and establishment of best practices for

carrier class fiber networks under construction within the Enterprise. Works to design and install

highly complex networks as well as develops techniques to optimize the network for maximum efficiency. Proactively identifies and troubleshoots issues related to highly complex network problems and works them to resolution, including the communication of progress to managers. Investigates, evaluates, and makes recommendations on new and emerging technologies as part of ongoing hardware support and refresh cycles. Prepares technical solutions and makes recommendations. Provides technical assistance to management to

develop RFPs, RFQs, and other specification documents to acquire hardware, software and/or IT Services.

Develops documentation for the configuration of network components including setup, installation, and overall deployment of network hardware and software.

Creates Visio diagrams of the network for documenting new and existing network elements. Ensures that all existing and new networks meet or exceed the security requirements set forth by OA. Participates in annual renewal of maintenance contracts for network-related hardware. Participates in

trouble ticket resolution and reporting.

Supports remote IT staff with network-related issues. Supports central office staff and business partners with network-related issues to assist in the troubleshooting of delivery center applications. Communicates effectively both verbally and in writing with other employees, vendors, and business partners. Maintains a strong understanding of various protocols including

BGP, EIGRP, HSRP, and VRRP. Maintains a strong knowledge of

network monitoring tools and automation. Performs other duties as required.
