POSITION DESCRIPTION

POSITION: Youth Ministries Director (part-time)

POSITION SCOPE: The Youth Ministries Director shall be responsible for overseeing the church's efforts in the area of ministering to youth, with a focus on their spiritual growth and safety. This position will be responsible for ministering to youth who have completed grade six through twelve. The Youth Ministries Director is expected to be present most weekends to oversee the youth ministry programs and to attend Sunday morning contemporary worship service. He/she will act in accordance with LUMC's core values and mission statement.

POSITION ACCOUNTABILITY: The Youth Ministries Director will work under the direct supervision of the Senior Pastor. He/she will periodically consult with the Leadership Team (Staff-Parish Committee) in matters related to their ministry.

POSITION SUPERVISORY ROLE: The Youth Ministries Director shall supervise all paid and unpaid staff working in the areas of youth ministry. He/she shall work with these staff people to make sure that lay persons are being trained and equipped for ministry in these areas.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS: The Youth Ministries Director will have good communication, interpersonal, and decision-making skills. He/she will have a nurturing and compassionate heart for preteen and teenage children. He/she must be able to recruit, train and equip volunteers and create a comfortable and safe learning environment for youth and the laity. He/she will have a passion for sharing the Gospel. He/she will demonstrate a mature, visible and growing relationship with and commitment to Jesus Christ as Lord. He/she will demonstrate a dedicated relationship with the church body here at Lititz UMC as shown through their faithful attendance and willingness to serve selflessly. Degree in Bible/Youth Ministry or 3 years Youth leader experience preferred.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Colossians 1:15-20- The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him. He is before all things, and in him all things hold together. And he is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he might have the supremacy. For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him, and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross.

1. "Always keep the main thing the main thing." As evidenced in the above Scripture, and as stated in our LUMC vision, Jesus Christ is center of all. Your ultimate goal and main objective is to point people toward Him.

2. Provide a balanced approach to ministry through fellowship and fun, worship, study and service.

3. Coordinate the smooth execution of high quality Sunday School and youth programs which help the youth grow spiritually.

4. Assure a safe learning environment (both physically and socially) for the youth, being careful to comply with all Safe Sanctuary Regulations.

5. Create and maintain a healthy, welcoming, inclusive and friendly environment for youth.

6. Select and implement various programs, curriculum, etc. that are targeted to the various age groups and developmental stages throughout the youth ministry.

7. Oversee, recruit, train and equip teachers, youth program leaders and mentors.

8. Coordinate special events, outreaches and service opportunities for youth. (i.e. Creation, retreats, service projects, etc.)

9. Use Sunday School, youth programs, worship services and other times to give youth the opportunity to use their gifts and talents.

10. Communicate regularly with youth and parents through various forms of technology/social media and meet with volunteers and parents regularly as needed.

11. Be fiscally responsible to develop a budget for the youth ministry area within the given time frames, manage that budget throughout the year and operate within that budget.

12. Attend church and staff meetings as required and communicate regular with the Senior pastor and church staff.

13. Be an active and participating part of the church body here at Lititz UMC.

14. Set a Godly example for the youth to follow. Lead where you want them to go.
