Define the possibilities of Vanguard's Brokerage Solutions

Brokerage is at the core of Vanguard's mission to give investors the best chance of investment success. Not only does the self-directed client base rely on the Retail Brokerage Platform, Vanguard's advice technology also is dependent on a modern, scalable set of brokerage capabilities. The Brokerage Platform Architect is a critical role that requires brokerage technology expertise to drive a modernized architecture that can scale well into the future.

In this role you will:

1. Provide the architectural leadership in shaping firm or business unit-wide, transformational, business technology solutions, with an emphasis on application architecture. Solutions Architects possess broad and deep business domain knowledge and application portfolio knowledge and play a key role in defining the future state of large, business technology programs.

2. Utilize a broad and deep understanding of the competitive landscape and corporate and business unit strategies to provide context for architectural decision making.

3. Within area of responsibility, continuously pursue expert-level knowledge of business technology solutions and maintains understanding of applicable technologies, tools, and services:
  • Establish working relationships with appropriate business technology solution providers (e.g., Salesforce, Charles River, Reuters, etc.).
  • Leverage knowledge capital available through subscription research services that target business technology solutions (e.g., Forrester on Digital Business, Cutter on investment management, etc.).
  • Leverage the Internet and trade periodicals that focus on the contemporary, competitive, business technology issues within the financial industry.
  • Attend financial industry conferences and engages in associated activities (e.g., conducting presentations, leading workshops, etc.).
4. Define reference and implementation application architectures.

5. Produce technology roadmaps in support of SI's application portfolio vision and strategy.

6. Monitor application implementation activity to ensure architecture and design principles are upheld.

7. Ensure application implementation solutions support the business objectives (asset gathering, cost optimization, client loyalty improvement), as appropriate.

8. Participate in governance team discussions and provides a strong voice on critical decisions.

9. Utilize superior leadership skills, especially in the areas of persuasion, influence, conceptual thinking, and problem solving.

10. Establish relationships with senior IT and Business leaders for the purpose of advancing proposed application architecture solutions.

11. Coach and mentor more junior solution architects.

12. Participate in special projects and perform other duties as assigned

What it takes:
  • An undergraduate degree in a Computer Science-related field or the equivalent combination of training and experience, graduate degree preferred
  • A minimum of 8+ years of broad senior technical experience
  • Broad and deep knowledge in brokerage platform domain
  • Public cloud expertise
  • Prowess to think strategically, execute tactically, and provide technical expertise to both technical and business partners
  • Superb communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills
