A Development Chapter Lead at Vanguard manages and develops a team and provides advanced level IT technical lead services, including the direction, evaluation, selection, configuration, implementation, and integration of new and existing technologies and tools.
As part of Retail's NWoW Transformation, the Development Chapter Lead (DCL) leads a group of individuals within a discipline or competency (e.g., developers), focuses on skill / people development within their Chapter, and continuous improvement of the overall Chapter discipline. This includes developing its members through peer-coaching, training and mentoring, ensuring that teams have the capabilities needed to succeed, and building knowledge and enabling best practice sharing within their Chapter. As a player-coach, they also spend 60% of their time as an individual contributor for a team. The DCL role was created as a new "player-coach" position. DCLs write code as a member of a team and also lead other developers in the same product family. This allows for senior developers to gain leadership and technical experience in the same position. - Develop crew to build technical expertise through focused and relevant coaching
- Establish and implement a chapter vision, strategy and goals/OKRs.
- Manages staff. Develops, mentors, and provides guidance, training and motivation as necessary.
- Participates in code reviews and sets performance and best practice standards.
- Acts as an individual contributor and participates in design and development of applications using web technologies.
- Participates in design, code, and test Inspections throughout life cycle to identify issues. Explains technical considerations at related meetings, including those with internal clients.
- Translates technical specifications, and/or logical and physical design into code for new or enhancement projects for internal clients. Develops code that reuses subroutines or objects, is well structured, includes sufficient comments, and is easy to maintain. Writes programs, ad hoc queries, and reports.
- Is highly functional on large, matrixed project teams. Interfaces with cross functional team members, including database administrator, IT security, project manager, technical writer, and clients. Communicates systems issues at the appropriate technical level for each audience.
- Ensures consistency of the knowledge and skills, sharing best practices and common challenges in their area and others. Maintains current knowledge of IT development methodology, architecture design, and technical standards. Mentors IT staff as new standards are instituted, ensures their usage by team members.
- Undergraduate degree in a related field or the equivalent combination of training and experience
- Five years of software development experience using Java technical stack.
- Experience with AWS Cloud Development is highly preferred.
- Demonstrated experience in technical leadership and acting as a mentor and coach for developers on the team.
- Strong analysis skills.
- Experience with Java, Spring Boot and Microservices
- Experience or ability to quickly learn AWS (S3, DynamoDB, ECS, EC2, IAM, Streams)
- Experience using CI/CD pipeline tools like Bamboo, Jenkins.
- Passion for Test Driven Development.
- AWS certification is preferable: AWS Developer/Architect.
- Experience with Angular preferred
- Functional knowledge of Python, Scala and Java preferred.
