Position Description: The Senior Infrastructure Engineer provides guidance and engineering solutions to fulfill business requirements using sound and proven industry best practices in accordance with architectural standards and engineering methodology. Analyzes and resolves complex issues related to infrastructure engineering and operations, system software, storage management, backup methodology, virtualization, monitoring and management tools, business continuity and high availability solutions.

Accountabilities• Manages and supports Windows, Linux, Azure and VMware infrastructure. Deploys and maintains hyperconverged systems infrastructure in a hybrid cloud environment.• Administers and supports the backup and recovery infrastructure.• Works closely with network, security, development, application and support teams in the implementation of infrastructure components that support emerging technologies and applications.• Monitors system performance and capacity, provides periodic system status reports to department management and provides proactive remediation.• Analyzes reports to identify trends and opportunities for process and technology enhancements and coordinates system enhancements with architectural team.• Provides cost and trend analysis and resolutions to critical Infrastructure problems.• Serves as an escalation point for team members as well as a liaison between operations and architecture teams.• Maintains effective external relationships with vendors, consultants and service providers. Leverages these relationships to ensure that the best fit solutions and resources are available to the company.• Provides on-call and after-hours support to address incidents, maintain infrastructure and support operational efforts.• Performs duties in accordance with Penn Medicine and entity values, policies, and procedures• Other duties as assigned to support the unit, department, entity, and health system organization

The Infrastructure Engineer is responsible for engineering solutions to fulfill business requirements using sound, proven, industry best practices and in accordance with architectural standards and engineering methodology. Develops and presents recommendations to leadership. Analyzes and resolves complex issues related to infrastructure engineering and operations,system software, storage management, backup methodology, virtualization, monitoring and management tools, business continuity, high availability solutions, provide hardware estimates, support hardware and related applications. Analyzes, coordinates, and implements infrastructure projects. Monitors system performance and capacity, and provides periodic system status reports to department management and provides proactive remediation. Analyzes reports to identify trends and opportunities for process and technology enhancements.

Accountabilities• Deploys and maintains hyperconverged systems infrastructure in a hybrid cloud environment.• Manages and supports Windows, Linux, Azure & VMware infrastructure,• Administers and supports the backup and recovery infrastructure.• Works closely with network, security, development, application, and support teams in the implementation of infrastructure components that support emerging technologies and applications.• Assists with server vulnerability patch deployment and remediation.• Contributes to hardware and OS lifecycle tasks including scheduling and deployment.• Serves as escalation point for server and operations teams; assists coworkers in problem resolution and platform knowledge• Responsible for service, incident and change request ticket management.• Provides on-call and after-hours support to address incidents, maintains infrastructure and support operational efforts.• Performs duties in accordance with Penn Medicine and entity values, policies, and procedures• Other duties as assigned to support the unit, department, entity, and health system organization

Minimum Requirements: The Senior Infrastructure Engineer

Required Education and Experience• Bachelor's Degree is required.• Current Internal Penn Medicine Information Services division employees may be considered with proof of active and continued enrollment in an approved bachelor degree program• 8+ years' experience in system administration, WMware and storage is required.• 6+ years' experience in server and cloud infrastructure is required.

Required Skills and Abilities• Solid understanding of information systems infrastructure and application capabilities• Ability to troubleshoot, research and solve technically challenging problems• Ability to communicate with internal and external constituents• Demonstrated customer service skills• Demonstrated interpersonal/verbal communication skills• Advanced capabilities related to Windows and Linux administration.• Working knowledge of virtualization technologies, primarily VMware and associated solutions.• Working knowledge of containerization (Docker, Kubernetes)• Coding/scripting abilities using PowerShell, Bash, Python• Working knowledge of networking including routing, switching firewalls.• Working knowledge of common information security concepts and practices.• Strong Azure experience, including Azure AD, deploying Azure VM templates and managing Azure VMs, virtual networks, storage, Azure Site Recovery and other Azure services.• Working knowledge of storage and backup systems such as Avamar, Data Domain, Netbackup

The Infrastructure Engineer

Required Education and Experience• Bachelor's Degree is required.• Current Internal Penn Medicine Information Services division employees may be considered with proof of active and continued enrollment in an approved bachelor degree program• 6+ years' experience with System administration, VMware, Cloud or Storage is required.• Server Infrastructure, Cloud Infrastructure, or storage experience is preferred.• Healthcare experience is preferred.

Licenses, Registrations, and Certifications • VMWare is preferred.• Redhat is preferred.• Azure is preferred

Required Skills and Abilities• Ability to communicate technical information and ideas• Demonstrated customer service skills• Demonstrated interpersonal/verbal communication skills• Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of staff• Skilled in virtualization technologies, primarily VMware and associated solutions, namely VSAN and NSX.• Skilled in Coding/Scripting using PowerShell, Bash, Python.• Skilled utilizing Azure, including Azure AD, deploying Azure VM templates and managing Azure VMs, virtual networks, storage, Azure Site Recovery, and other Azure services.• Familiarity with containerization (Docker, Kubernetes)• Working knowledge of networking including routing, switching, firewalls.• Working knowledge of common information security concepts and practices.

Additional Information: As part of our COVID-19 response, this position may currently be offering partial or full remote work. However, in the near future this position will require full or partial on-site work.
