Position Overview

KIPP Philadelphia Public Schools (KPPS) seeks a strong finance/accounting professional to join a growing Finance team as we prepare for the region’s next phase of growth and the implementation of our five-year strategic plan – an exciting moment in KPPS history! The Accounting Manager will monitor KPPS’ daily financial activity and ensure compliance across accounts receivables, accounts payables, credit cards, and grants management. The Accounting Manager will work with colleagues across the organization as well as with KPPS back-office providers to ensure all transactions are properly recorded and supporting documentation is in place. The Accounting Manager will also review reporting for $25M+ in public and private grants to ensure spending is compliant with the grant. The Accounting Manager will report to the Managing Director of Finance until a full-time Controller is hired.

Key Responsibilities

General Accounting

  • Collects and deposits all cash receipts and maintain supporting documentation
  • Serves as “gatekeeper” in Anybill, the KPPS accounts payables platform, ensuring all payments are issued with appropriate supporting documentation and vendor files are maintained
  • Reviews monthly credit card expense reports for coding and supporting documentation
  • Performs periodic reconciliations on balance sheet and income statement accounts
  • Assists the Managing Director of Finance in billing of revenue including federal grants, food service, etc.
  • Cultivates strong relationships across a wide variety of stakeholders, including but not limited to regional office leadership, school leadership, and KIPP Family Association leadership and serves as initial point of contact for questions/troubleshooting

Grants Management

  • Works with program managers to review spending and prepare reports for restricted spending sources
  • Maintains chart of accounts throughout the KPPS ecosystem to sufficiently track spending

Audit and Fiscal Compliance

  • Supports Finance team in preparing for and executing any financial audits and 990s, including compiling supporting documentation and reviewing certain general ledger accounts
  • Work with Anybill to prepare annual 1099s

Qualifications

  • BA/BS degree in Accounting
  • Mastery of Microsoft Office and G-Suite. Ideally, prior exposure to Intacct
  • Thorough knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) and Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB)
  • Minimum 4 years of experience, preferably in a non-profit organization
  • Non-profit experience required, K-12 experience preferred
  • Complete all required criminal and child abuse background checks:
    • PA State Police Clearance
    • PA Child Abuse Clearance
    • Cogent Federal Fingerprinting

Additional Information

Compensation

  • The salary range for this position is $60,000 to $70,000 and is commensurate with experience.
