Position Description: This position may be filled at the Senior Network Technician or Network Technician level!

Senior Network Technician:

Job Summary:
Resolves issues related to the coordination, control, design, support and operation of specialized components of a data network such as Local Area Networks (LANs), Wide Area Networks (WANs). Configures, tests, maintains, troubleshoots and tunes network infrastructure such as routers, switches, gateways, firewall systems, multi-function switches and end offices, signaling transfer points. Participates in network planning for network infrastructure enhancements and expansions.

Accountabilities:• Proactively manages assigned Entity physical network components• Escalates appropriately to manager when a problem or issue reaches a critical state as well escalates to manager when additional support is needed in order to resolve an issue.• Participates in the Core Infrastructure meetings and is up to date on all communications from Core Infrastructure team to understand technology direction and adherence to technology standards.

Network Technician:

Job Summary:
Resolves issues related to the coordination, control, design, support, and operation of specialized components of a data network such as Local Area Networks (LANs), Wide Area Networks (WANs). Configures, tests, maintains, troubleshoots, and tunes network infrastructure such as routers, switches, gateways, firewall systems, multi-function switches, and end offices, signaling transfer points. Participates in network planning for network infrastructure enhancements & expansions. Documents work and maintains required documentation.

Escalates appropriately to Senior Network Technician or Manager when a problem, issue, or configuration change arises. Also escalates to manager when additional support is needed in order to resolve an issue.

Minimum Requirements: Senior Network Technician:

Required Education and Experience:
• High School Diploma / GED Required• Bachelor's Degree preferred• 4+ years of experience in data, voice or video networks• 1+ years of experience working with multiple technical platforms (e.g. mainframe, two-tiered client-server, three-tiered client-server) and at least two network systems (e.g. Cisco, Nortel)• 1 or more year of experience working with network systems, networking principles• 1 or more year of experience working with network software and hardware• 1 or more year of experience working with proprietary software and hardware• Healthcare environment experience preferred

Required Skills and Abilities:• Skilled in time, priority and task management• Interpersonal skills to interact with customers and team members• Good communication skills to interact with team members and support personnel• Good leadership skills to guide and mentor the work of less experienced personnel• Ability to anticipate problems, resolve ambiguity and take decisive action• Ability to work independently and as part of a team• Good ability to analyze and solve problems using analytical and creative problem solving skills• Ability to convey a strong presence, professional image, and deal confidentiality with technical problems• Proactive in identifying areas of network improvement and need for Network capacity expansion• Willingness to travel within Penn Medicine sites

Network Technician:
