By living the Amtrak values, focusing on our capabilities, and actively embracing and fostering diverse ideas, backgrounds, and perspectives, together we will honor our past and make Amtrak a company of the future.SUMMARY OF DUTIES:The primary responsibility of the Amtrak System Track Engineering Design Group is to provide track alignment designs and special trackwork designs for interlocking renewals and curve modifications for both undercutter projects and tie-renewal projects. We also review and comment on track engineering designs performed by engineering design consultants for Amtrak projects and projects that could impact Amtrak's infrastructure. The Design Group uses Bentley Microstation Rail Track & Open Rail Design CAD software to analyze track alignment survey data, to develop proposed horizontal and vertical alignment designs and produce construction drawings. The Co-op position will support the design activities of the group by assisting in various phases of design including field survey, production of existing conditions drawings, analyzing geometry data, developing proposed track alignments and profiles, and developing special trackwork drawings.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Must be actively pursuing a degree at an accredited educational institution.Must be actively pursuing an undergraduate degree in Civil Engineering.Must have at least 1 year of academic undergraduate studies completed or a sophomore status at minimum.Must have a cumulative GPA of 2.8or higherPREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:Education level: Pre-BS Civil Engineering student who has completed Sophomore or Junior year.Education Emphasis: Civil Engineering with emphasis on rail transportation, construction management, geotechnical or stormwater management.
