A large bio-pharmaceutical company in the Philadelphia, PA area needs an Process Controls Manager to managing a high performing team of automation engineers in the operations, maintenance, continuous improvement, and capital project support of multiple automation systems & platforms, in pursuit of maximizing system performance and reliability and delivering site objectives.

Responsibilities include some of the following:

  • Provide of technical management and stewardship of multiple automation systems. These systems include process controls (Emerson DeltaV), building automation (Siemens Apogee), skid mounted (PLC Allen Bradley), and manufacturing execution (Emerson Syncade). Partner with other functions of the department (Network and Systems, Digital Ops, Data Science and Analytics) to support alignment within the team.
  • Provide visible and active leadership for front line automation engineers. Be present in tiered value stream meetings, spend time on the shop floor, develop and nurture relationships with peers, set direction for the team and operational stakeholders, and 'hear (and act upon) the voice of the customer'.
  • Maximize the performance and uptime of automation systems in support of 24/7 operations in both manufacturing and facilities operations. Oversee all business-as-usual activities including daily operations, maintenance, troubleshooting, consultation, and fulfilling requests for information.
  • Lead the improvement of site automation systems through continuous improvement initiatives and capital projects.
  • Optimize existing and develop new procedures and ways of working related to team operations. Continuously improve the overall documentation set within the Process Controls team's remit.
  • Serve as the operational point of contact for all things process controls with building stakeholders and external partners.
  • Drive maximum throughput of your team while maintaining a strong posture in all aspects of compliance. EHS: prioritize safety above all else, complete safety records on time and in full, use automation systems to improve building safety, and lead your team through any new site safety initiatives. Quality: complete quality records on time and in full and manage your team in a state of audit-readiness. Digital: ensure your systems are well positioned from aspects of data integrity, backup and archival, security and cyber.
  • Contribute to the development and on-going evolution of the Department's strategy, site objectives, prioritization of tasks, and roadmap.
  • Foster a culture of capability development and performance management. Build relationships with the individuals on your team - set direction, assist in problem solving and resolution, and manage performance.
Qualifications:

  • BS/BA in engineering, life sciences, biology or equivalent technical discipline and 10 years of relevant technical experience
  • At least 8 years of experience in controls or automation engineering in a manufacturing environment.
  • At least 2 years of experience managing a technical staff.
  • At least 5 years of experience working in the pharmaceutical industry.
  • Experience with design, programming, commissioning, validation, and maintenance & troubleshooting of automation code and systems.
  • Experience coding on the Emerson DeltaV platform.
Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with design, programming, commissioning, validation, and maintenance & troubleshooting on any of the following systems: Emerson Syncade MES, Siemens Apogee (or Desigo) BAS, and Rockwell PLCs.
  • Prior experience with systems/account administration, network design, and server troubleshooting.
  • Knowledge in current standards of control system platforms and computer system validation.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage projects to completion on time and within budget.
  • Ability to diagnose problems, generate options, prioritize issues, select optimal solutions, and implement decisions/resolve problems.
  • A demonstrated ability to interact well with peers and senior personnel in multidisciplinary teams involving scientific, engineering, and operational disciplines.
