Position Description: This position may be filled at the Sr. Web Designer, Web Designer or Associate Web Designer level!

Sr. Web Designer:

Job Summary
The Senior Web Designer is an integral member of the Web Design Team. She/he contributes to the team through the completion of highly complex tasks and efficiently learns complex new technical skills with minimal or no additional assistance. She/he provides leadership to the team in the form of mentoring of other staff members, project oversight and delegation, identification and achievement of long-term goals, and the leading of team meetings and/or discussions. The senior web designer possesses excellent communication skills, escalates issues promptly and demonstrates initiative when appropriate.

Accountabilities:• Responsible for the development of:- Responsive website layouts designed within organizational standards using primarily web-based and secondarily desktop-based publishing technologies- Mockup wireframing, design, and refinement- Web coding- Implementation- Requirements gathering, analysis and synthesis• Communicates effectively with clients in person, over the phone, and via email. Works closely with clients to understand the needs of an audience and the nature and function of material to be published. Facilitates and assists clients with problem analysis and resolution.• Converts and maintains sites within a content management system• Analyzes and solves problems of a vast scope and complexity. Refers to policies and procedures for guidance.• Works closely with web developers to incorporate or contribute to significant application development projects, including storyboarding, user interface design, and prototyping• Oversees projects• Mentors mid-level and junior staff members• Performs duties in accordance with Penn Medicine and entity values, policies, and procedures• Other duties as assigned to support the unit, department, entity, and health system organization

Web Designer:

Job Summary:
The Web Designer develops websites for Penn Medicine, which includes the Perelman School of Medicine and the University of Pennsylvania Health System. The developed websites will support Penn Medicine's missions of education, research, and patient care, including supporting the administrative functions of our school of medicine and health system.

The Web Designer contributes to the team through various tasks (including web design, communication and documentation) and project-related research for technical solutions. The Web Designer can multi-task, work independently as well as collaboratively with other designers on projects.

Associate Web Designer:

Job Summary
The Associate Web Designer contributes to the team through task-related activities and project-related research, which may include assisting mid-level and senior level team members with design, development and coding. Under close supervision, the scope of work may grow as the Associate Web Designer develops skills, experience, and a familiarity with the team's projects, methods, and clients.

Accountabilities:• Responsible for contributing the development of:- Responsive website layouts designed within organizational standards using primarily web-based and secondarily desktop-based publishing technologies- Mockup wireframing, design, and refinement- Web coding• Communicates effectively with clients in person, over the phone, and via email.• Assists with the conversion and maintenance of websites within a content management system.• Assists with the writing and maintenance of documentation.• Analyzes and solves routine problems of limited scope and complexity following established policies and procedures.• Contributions are usually limited to task-related activities or project-related research.• Work is closely supervised.• Performs duties in accordance with Penn Medicine and entity values, policies, and procedures• Other duties as assigned to support the unit, department, entity, and health system organization

Minimum Requirements: Sr. Web Designer:

Required Education and Experience:
• Bachelor's Degree in Graphic Design, Computer Science or web-related area required• Current Internal Penn Medicine Information Services division employees may be considered with proof of active and continued enrollment in an approved bachelor degree program• 5+ years of professional experience in designing, developing and maintaining standards-compliant static websites required

Required Skills and Abilities:• Demonstrated written communication skills• Demonstrated interpersonal/verbal communication skills• Ability to work both under supervision and when appropriate, take initiative to make independent action.• Ability to work as part of a team• Mastery of graphic design and graphic design principles• Mastery of development of standards-compliant HTML and CSS code• Proficiency in Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Dreamweaver, Adobe Illustrator or equivalent tools• Experience modifying and using Javascript and jQuery• Strong understanding of SEO (search engine optimization) tools• Experience in web data usage tools and analysis• Proficiency with browser and device testing• Proficiency with multi-tasking and working effectively on multiple tasks, levels, and deadline-oriented projects simultaneously• Experience overseeing projects and delegating to others• Experience mentoring, supervising or coaching staff• Experience storyboarding for dynamic web applications• Experience with usability testing• Knowledge of UI (user interface) and UX (user experience) principles and techniques• Experience designing for iOS and mobile applications preferred• Experience with video playback on the web preferred• Experience with Agile Methodology preferred

Web Designer:

Required Education and Experience:
