UPMC is hiring a full-time Advanced Response Specialist to join our team!The Advanced Response Specialist will provide prehospital/paramedic patient care and clinical support services in accordance with established policies and procedures as well as state law, to assure that the highest degree of quality patient care can be maintained at all times. Assist in Prehospital Care educational programs. Assist in Prehospital Care QI programs. Assist in outreach to EMS agencies.Responsibilities:

Constructively receive feedback and direction. Identify and communicate learning needs to the clinical director.

Take action to improve knowledge, skills and performance.

Serve as a resource for staff and other disciplines.

Serve as a preceptor for new staff members.

Request assistance in planning and prioritizing activities as needed.

Participate in self-review as requested by the director. Participate in project and committee work.

Complete required education to maintain medic command.

Assure equipment malfunctions are reported to the appropriate department. Establish appropriate and effective communication strategies.Establish professional and respectful interpersonal relationships.Participate in unit based performance improvement including implementing corrective action when appropriate. Communicate / document complete and concise patient reports.Follow appropriate channels of communication.Work autonomously, presents a positive image of the hospital.Provide feedback to the command MD regarding patient care and reports changes in patient status. Manage continuous quality improvement program development for medical command services.Develop and execute action plans for those providers and systems that are identified through the quality improvement process.Develop, coordinate, and instruct continuing medical education programs for EMS providers.Establish and maintain effective professional relationships with local EMS agencies through outreach and clinical practice.Participate in community preventive health initiatives.

Demonstrate awareness of patient needs / expectations based on comprehensive history and physical. Utilize Prehospital care protocols and clinical judgment to provide basic and advanced life support. Utilize assessment data to identify areas requiring immediate intervention.Perform routine tests i.e. phlebotomy, blood glucose monitoring, patient weights, EKG's. Provide patient care including assisting with patient procedures, activities of daily living. Assist with physical, respiratory and cardiopulmonary therapies.Monitor and remove patient restraints as per MD or Hospital protocol.Strictly adhere to all policies and practices relative to patient care and hospital related information. Comply with safety policies and procedures including standard precautions.Document in the medical record according to established procedure.Meet and interact with EMS providers at all levels each shift and document these interactions every shiftPerform assigned work in a timely and productive manner.

Suggest and support changes within the Paramedic Response Team. Assume responsibility for assignment and views problems as challenges.Demonstrate awareness of behavior on the efficient functioning of the hospital and surrounding communities.

High school diploma or equivalent.

3 years of experience in EMS or a BA Degree in Emergency Medicine required.

Paramedic, certified by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania

Prehospital training required.

Successful completion of mandatory education provided by UPMC Health System.

Microcomputer experience preferred.

Successful completion of basic information system training is mandatory.

Professional verbal and written communication is essential.

Customer service skills are essential.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

Medic Command (currently employed on the Response Team) or eligibility to receive medic command (new hires) is required.

Instructor certification in trauma life support, ACLS, BCLS, and PALS preferred.

CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire

Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)

Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)

Driver's License

Emergency Vehicle Operator

Paramedic OR Pre Hospital Registered Nurse (PHRN)

Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
