DescriptionThe Creative and Expressive Arts Therapies department has been part of WPH since the early 1980s. We currently have 7 full time staff and 1 part time staff encompassing Art, Dance/Movement, Music, Recreation, and Yoga therapies. We provide mainly group services throughout the hospital on all the inpatient units and work with clients from ages 3 to 100+. We offer career advancement with a career ladder put into place!Therapist levels I, II and III will be considered for this role. The title and pay rate (minimum rate for Therapist I is $20.00; Therapist II is $22.56; Therapist III is $24.78) for these positions may vary depending on education level and years of experience.Purpose:The Creative and Expressive Therapist I (C&E Therapist I) will be conducting individual and group therapy as part of a multidisciplinary team. They will perform assigned tasks delegated by the C&E Arts Therapist Program Coordinator/Supervisor.Responsibilities:Facilitate Creative & Expressive Arts Therapist specialty training/orientation activities as requested by Creative & Expressive Arts Therapist Program Coordinator/supervisor.

Supervise students with oversight/support from Creative & Expressive Arts Therapist Program Coordinator/Supervisor.

Conduct individual and/or group therapy sessions effectively using a Creative & Expressive Arts Therapist discipline.

Document in the Medical Record according to established guidelines including assessments and treatment progress notes.

Document training and supervision activities according to established guidelines.

Adhere to hospital guidelines related to quality and safety.

Request and care for supplies responsibly and appropriately with consideration for the safety of the population.

Monitor for safe and responsible use of supplies.

Attend Creative & Expressive Arts Therapist department meetings regularly.

Maintain professional certification/licensure as per CEU requirements.

Attend 1-3 unit based or institute wide in-services/trainings yearly. Learn and use up-to-date technology and practices in delivery of patient care.

Attend interdisciplinary meetings and other activities as needed.

Maintain on-going communication with unit and Creative & Expressive Arts Therapist staff.

Perform assigned work in a timely and productive manner.

Performs in accordance with system-wide competencies/behaviors. Performs other duties as assigned.

QualificationsC & E Arts Therapist I:Completion of Master’s Degree in a Creative/Expressive Arts Therapy such as Art Therapy, Music Therapy, Dance/Movement Therapy, Drama Therapy or in a related Mental Health field from an accredited college or University is required.

The ability to clearly communicate both orally and in writing is required.

For this entry-level position, 1 year of experience providing group and/or individual therapy using a Creative & Expressive Arts Therapist discipline is necessary.

Graduate internship training hours count as experience for this position.

The incumbent must be physically capable of providing direct total physical care to unpredictable, potentially violent mentally ill patients as necessary, including lifting, supporting, running towards or away from areas where problems are occurring and pushing and pulling equipment such as wheelchairs, IV poles, etc.

C & E Arts Therapist II:Completion of Master’s Degree in a Creative/Expressive arts therapy such as Art Therapy, Music Therapy, Dance/Movement Therapy, Drama Therapy, or in a related Mental Health field from an accredited college or university is required.

Excellent ability to communicate orally and in writing is required.

2 - 6 years’ experience (graduate internship training hours excluded) delivering group and individual clinical treatment using a specific C & E Arts Therapist discipline is needed.

The incumbent must be physically capable of providing direct total physical care to unpredictable, potentially violent mentally ill patients as necessary, including lifting, supporting, running towards or away from areas where problems are occurring and pushing and pulling equipment such as wheelchairs, IV poles, etc.

C & E Arts Therapist III:Completion of Master’s Degree in a Creative/Expressive arts therapy such as Art Therapy, Music Therapy, Dance/Movement Therapy, Drama Therapy, or in a related Mental Health field from an accredited college or university is required.

Superior ability to communicate orally and in writing.

4 or more years of group and/or individual clinical experience using a specific C & E Arts Therapist discipline is needed excluding internship training experience.

3 years professional supervisory experience in a specific C & E Arts Therapist discipline or closely related discipline.

The incumbent must be physically capable of providing direct total physical care to unpredictable, potentially violent mentally ill patients as necessary, including lifting, supporting, running towards or away from areas where problems are occurring and pushing and pulling equipment such as wheelchairs, IV poles, etc.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:Candidates must hold the minimum credentialing for a creative arts discipline such as: Music Therapy (MT-BC); Dance Movement Therapy (R-DMT); Drama Therapy (RDT), or have a Master’s Degree in Art Therapy and be working toward certificationCardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
