DescriptionPurpose:The Lead Dental Assistant is under the direct supervision of the Senior Practice Manager and the daily supervision of the dentists for patient care. Collaborates with department leadership to lead the operational activities of the dental assistants. Assists with staffing schedules, dental assistant performance reviews, policy/procedure development, and other operational issues. Trains assistants and leads onboarding, coordinates work requirements, and provides input to dental assistant employment decisions.Responsibilities:Provide oversight for the daily activities of the Dental Assisting staff, including making adjustments to staffing assignments
Facilitate the development of educational materials for the assistants including an orientation program specific competencies, and continuing education
Provide input to the Manager in the evaluation of dental assisting staff and participate in the performance review process
Participate in the development /revision of department policies and procedures
Maintain and update resource materials for dental assistants
Provide assistance in ordering and organizing supplies in clinic and/or serves as liaison in coordinating Orthodontic days in clinic.
Assist chairside with dental attendings and residents, in clinic and OR, in any CHP Dental location. Travel between locations required.
Adhere to organization's Patient Safety Plans, goals and fulfill Patients Safety objectives.
Attend annual hospital and departmental fire/safety and infection control training and maintain current knowledge of safety procedures with the hospital and department Assist Dental Clinical Director with residency program.
Assist dentists in coordination of dental community outreach initiatives.
Comply with requirements of appropriate regulatory agencies (i.e. OSHA TJC, Pa department of Health)
Participate in mandatory hospital programs including but not limited to those on Hazardous Materials (MSDS), Infection (OSHA Bloodborne Pathogen Standard) (TB Plan) and general safety. Perform all functions, with or without accommodation, in a manner that poses no direct threat to self or to others.
Qualifications5 years of Dental Assistant experience required.
Graduate of a dental assisting school preferred.
Must be x-ray certified
Experience and skill with standard four-handed dentistry techniques.
Excellent communication skills and work well as a team leader
High motivation and good organizational skills preferredInstitutional experience preferred
Demonstrated leadership and supervisory ability
Must have in-depth knowledge of department and system-wide policies and procedures in order to function as a resource to others
Ability to mentor dental assistants and support personnel
Interpersonal skills to effectively interact with a diverse population
Ability to work routinely in collaboration with members of the management team both within the organization as well as those in outside agencies.
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
