Take your first step to joining our dedicated team by applying today.PRIMARY PURPOSE: Under minimal supervision, this position is responsible for performing routine testing of biological specimens and reviewing test results and quality assessment data. This position is also responsible for providing skilled technical support in the laboratory including lead/general supervisory responsibilities. Works with other team members to ensure timely, quality, test results.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Performs all assigned duties in compliance with internal SOPs and external regulations. Brings compliance issues to the attention of management.Provide value for the customer by supporting departmental and individual goal achievement, effective communications, process improvement and compliance.Demonstrate respect for all team members by seeking input on processes and problem solving, communicating key information, collaborative teamwork and supporting a culture of diversity.Coordinate's workflow, training, and mentoring of staff, as required.Maintains accurate records and documentation. Ensures donor, patient, and employee confidentiality.Performs preparation and prequalification of reagents and routine testing of biological samples.Performs record review and review of results, including patient testing result review.Performs and oversees preventive maintenance and quality assurance on equipment. Identifies malfunctions on more complex equipment. Performs trouble shooting and notifies appropriate personnel if additional service is needed.Performs equipment calibration, as necessary. Maintains inventory of supplies and reagents.Maintains the cleanliness of equipment and work areas. Ensures adherence to safety guidelines.Assists in reviewing results for proficiency survey sample testing.Investigates deviations in testing, quality control, and preventive maintenance. Makes recommendations for corrective action. Brings to attention of appropriate personnel.Assists in coordination and performance of evaluations of reagents, equipment, and new testing methods.Assists with performing required competency assessments and completing documentation for accrediting agencies.Leads process improvement teams, validations and implementation of new processes and equipment.Performs all other duties, at the discretion of management, as assigned.REQUIREMENTS:Knowledge/EducationBachelor's degree in a chemical, physical, biological, medical technology or clinical laboratory science required.Must satisfy CLIA requirements for High Complexity Testing required.Licenses/CertificationsNOTE: Requirements vary based on the specific laboratory and state. State licensure, as required by regulations.Immunohematology Reference Laboratory (IRL)/Transfusion Service:Certification as a Medical Technologist or Specialist in Blood Banking (SBB) by a recognized certifying agency required. SBB required.ExperienceNOTE: Requirements vary based on the specific laboratory and state. Immunohematology Reference Laboratory (IRL)/Transfusion Service:Five years clinical laboratory testing experience required. One-year IRL experience preferred.Skills/AbilitiesMust possess the skills and abilities to successfully perform all assigned duties and responsibilities. Must be able to maintain confidentiality.
