Although we are a women’s hospital, we care for both women and men in a compassionate, supportive, high-tech environment, utilizing protocols to enable both patient and staff safety. Our post-op patients may be recovering from orthopedic, vascular, urological, gynecological, or bariatric surgeries. Due to the wide variety of services we offer and medical conditions we see, 3200 is a great fit for graduate nurses and nurses seeking to build broad knowledge and/or gain new experience.What can you Expect as a Patient Care Technician?The Patient Care Technician provides patient care including assisting with patient procedures and activities of daily living and assists with physical, respiratory, and cardiopulmonary therapies. They provide feedback to the RN regarding patient care and reports changes in patient status.The Patient Care Technician performs the UPMC nursing core nursing assistant responsibilities (blood glucose, weights, vital signs, I&O, specimen collections and Foley care) and at least four of the following BU identified tasks: phlebotomy, 12 lead EKG, simple dressing, Foley catheter removal, point of care testing, bladder scan, straight catheter, or IV catheter removal. They also must routinely perform the UPMC nursing core nursing assistant responsibilities including ADLs (bathing, feeding, transporting, toileting, ambulating, turning and repositioning patients as well as point of care testing (inc. blood glucose), weights, vital signs, I&O, telemetry monitor application/reapplication, HAC & PSI prevention (TEDs/SCDs). In addition, they may also apply simple dressings, placement, and removal of restraints, 12 lead EKG, bladder scan, all specimen collections. All competencies must be achieved.The Patient Care Technician is a valued step in the UPMC nursing support career ladder, with opportunities for continued growth and advancement. One of the following:

1 year of experience

Enrollment in PT/OT/PA Program or related healthcare training program with completion of at least one clinical rotation

Completion of a bachelor’s degree in a health sciences field

Successful completion of UPMC Patient Care Technician class preferred

EMT or Paramedic (or in a program) preferred

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)

CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire

Act 33 with renewal

Act 34 with renewal

Act 73 FBI Clearance
