Program Director, Pittsburgh Community Aphasia GroupClinical Responsibilities specific to Clinical Instructor Role:

Collaborate with and mentor student trainees to provide the following:

Diagnostic and therapeutic services for the clinic.

Conduct evaluations and develop goals for aphasia group clients.

Document client progress

Provide family counseling.

Generate programming for both small group and large group therapy sessions

Maintain Continuing Education on topics relevant to clinical education and clinical services provided.

Document student progress and complete mid-term and final evaluations

Maintain two-way communication with the University of Pittsburgh Director of SLP Clinical Education to support student education.

Clinical Responsibilities specific to Clinical Director Role:

Communicate regularly with referral sources including local physicians, SLPs, and other medical providers as well as friends and family members of people with aphasia

Generate and publish social media posts and announcements to keep the community involved and entice new members to join the group.

Coordinate guest speakers, member spotlights, and pop-up special topic meetings, as requested by the aphasia group.

Connect members with necessary resources (e.g., social engagement opportunities, additional therapy referrals, a transpiration such as Access, research opportunities, leadership activities, community advocacy)

Participate in meetings within the CSD department to support clinical education and departmental university and community relationships.

Support caregivers and family members of clients served in keeping with best practices of Life Participation Approach to Aphasia treatment model (LPAA)

Manage contributions of staff, faculty contributing effort, and contributing SLPs

Participates in the selection and evaluation of staff and contributing SLPs to meet the changing needs of the center

Liaison and coordinate services with outside agencies.

Ensure clinical practices meet all HIPPA and OSHA standards.

Participate in collection of program assessment data.

Handle confidential information.

Maintain email accounts to keep up with new referrals, questions about the center, referrals as appropriate, etc.

Active recruitment of new members

Conduct site tours and provide education to prospective members.

Supervisory ResponsibilitiesPosition supervises delivery of speech-language pathology services and provides direct care in small and large group treatment models.Position supervises student volunteers and clinical trainees (undergraduate and graduate)The position has the authority, if approved, to take action or make recommendations that will affect procedures, processes, and practices involving employees within the same department.Research/Scholarly ActivitiesThe individual in this position will collaborate with the University of Pittsburgh PTARI research group to support their research mission.
