The Allegheny County Jail has established the Discharge and Release Center to ensure inmates are released in an organized way with the clothing, medication, transportation, housing, support and additional resources needed to re-enter society successfully. This change in discharge is part of a broader reentry effort that aims to increase public safety by reducing recidivism in Allegheny County. Subsequently, we are seeking a part-time Discharge Coordinator who will be responsible for implementing and tracking the discharge process, in addition to assisting in the improvement of discharge from the Allegheny County Jail. The first 30 days of a client's discharge from the Allegheny County Jail is critical and the incumbent will be assisting to identify and address the vulnerabilities to increase positive outcomes for the reentrant. Furthermore, the Coordinator will ensure that the discharge process is well-coordinated with other jail services, along with available community and family support. Additional responsibilities will include:

Facilitating the discharge process with jail staff.

Organizing and tracking the materials required for discharge, including the discharge checklist and the internal and external lists of telephone and email contacts.

Participating in evaluations of the discharge office.

Tracking resources, such as bus tickets, phone calls, referrals, clothing and medications.

Collaborating with colleagues and community groups in assisting and improving the release process.

Providing overdose prevention information, access to Narcan, and coordination of substance use services, as applicable.

Completing application for medical assistance, as applicable.

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university, plus 3 years' experience working in a criminal justice agency. Ability to plan, organize and participate in cross-systems activities, along with excellent interpersonal skills and group facilitation skills and the consistent demonstration of respect for others are key skills needed for this position. Also, an understanding of the Jail and community agency resources, along with the ability to use Microsoft Office and Excel, as well as learning the county Computer systems are important. The ideal candidate should have experience with correctional program services and knowledge of correctional security policies, including PA Title 37 regulations, accrediting bodies (i.e. American Correctional Association - ACA and National Commission on Correctional Health Care - NCCHC) and the indicated standards of compliance. Additionally, to be successful in this role, Candidate must be able to communicate well with others in the Jail, including staff and inmates who are about to be released. Excellent problem-solving, organizational and multi-tasking skills, with the ability to develop new practices and adjust as the new process takes hold are also essential. Experience in working with vulnerable adults, children and families.

This is a part-time position with a work schedule that alternates every other week. Candidates must be available to work either schedule:

Schedule 1:

Tuesday and Saturday 9:00 a.m.-5:30 p.m.

Tuesday and Friday 9:00 a.m.-5:30 p.m.

Schedule 2:

Thursday and Friday 12:00 p.m.-8:30 p.m.

Thursday and Saturday 12:00 p.m.-8:30 p.m.
