Reporting to the Plant Manager the O&M Technician II is responsible for the overall operation, maintenance, repair, and improvements to Clearway Energy facilities as directed by the Plant Manager. The primary objective is to perform safe, efficient, and reliable operation of large industrial central plant heating and cooling systems at the thermal facilities.

This position will also be responsible for coordinating work with Clearways Engineering, Construction Management and O&M departments.

Responsibilities:

Responsible for performing routine, preventive, and corrective maintenance tasks necessary to ensure the continuous safe and efficient operation of the equipment and related systems forming the Energy Center.

Responsible for performing basic mechanical work, both inside and outside of the facility, including, but not limited to, items such as replacement of valve packing, minor replacement of pipes, pump repair, overhaul, and replacement. General repair of Gas Turbine, HRSG, Boilers, Chillers, and associated auxiliary equipment.

The Operator may also be required to work with other trades on tasks that require more than one person.

Responsible for taking readings, and maintaining operating and maintenance logbooks as required, as assigned; creating reports and accumulating other information necessary for production reports and recordkeeping as directed.

Responsible for performing water quality tests and application of required chemicals.

Responsible for maintaining plant operating equipment and premises in clean and orderly manner.

Must be able to read, understand, and interpret blueprints and schematics, and have the ability to converse in technical terms with engineers, technicians, and mechanics.

Perform scheduled and unscheduled job assignments to Energy Center systems.

General familiarity with operation and theory of steam absorption chillers, electrical centrifugal chillers, all other chilled water generating systems, and chilled water distribution.

Understanding of Turbo machinery theory, operating and performance characteristics.

Test electrical circuits and equipment for compatibility and safety using test instruments such as volt/ohmmeter, meg-ohm-meter, phase rotation meter, amp meter, recording meter, infrared thermal meter, light meter, circuit tracer, or continuity tester.

Perform skilled preventative maintenance work on all Energy Center equipment

Perform skilled general maintenance duties as directed to finish and complete all projects/ tasks.

Direct the work of others assigned to you.

Knowledge in the operation of the CMMS (computerized maintenance management system), SAP or equivalent

The Operator completes assigned tasks in a timely and professional manner, contributes ideas and works to improve safety, operating practices, and housekeeping measures, and is expected to seek ways to continually improve Energy Center Plant Operations and/or maintenance requirements. The Operator realizes that the Energy Centers objective is to minimize utility costs, and shall continually operate in efficient and economical modes, as set forth by supervision, and shall continually seek ways to lower operating costs through efficient operation of the facility. The Operator should utilize sound business sense in planning maintenance objectives, planning to minimize equipment downtime, and/or conducting maintenance requiring equipment shutdowns at off peak hours (low loads).

Must be able to take direction from Clearway Energy management or their authorized designees. Task are often self-initiated based on preventive and predictive maintenance programs, or the Operators knowledge of the equipment and systems. In the absence of higher authority the Operator shall in the event of emergency or unusual circumstances be capable of taking appropriate measures to ensure personnel safety and plant reliability, or safely and appropriately conducting required shutdowns of equipment and or interconnecting systems. The Operator shall utilize common sense and sound judgment at all times.

Must be able and willing to work any shift, or a rotating shift, of which shifts schedules may vary and/or be adjusted long or short term to accommodate plant operational or maintenance functions.

Must be able to accept responsibility, work well independently or as an integral team member, must be highly motivated, willing to continue technical training on an ongoing basis, must be willing to accept changing qualifications and job responsibilities with future changing modes of operation, equipment addition and configuration, expansion, of the Energy Center.

Must maintain positive attitude.

Basic:

High school diploma or equivalent required. Vocational school diploma, or apprentice certificate, or journeyman certificate, or related military training.

Valid Pennsylvania drivers license.

Valid City of Pittsburgh Stationary Engineers, NIULPE Class 2 or above.

EPA 608 Certification “ Universal Refrigeration.

Maintain annual recurring training on related job topics as required.

Preferred:

Must have the physical ability to perform all duties of the position.

Willing to work all shifts, extended shifts, or call in's as needed, must be dependable.

Must have good communication and interpersonal skills.

Computer proficiency required in MS Office, Excel, Word, and Outlook.

Must have general operating knowledge of personal computers, printers, and related equipment.
