Associate Data Platform Engineer III (

What You Will Be Doing: As a Penske Associate Data Platform Engineer III, you will participate in all aspects of guiding and supporting development teams as they implement and deploy their applications on cloud or on-premise platforms. In this role, you will specifically be responsible for the DB2 environment. You will work with the software development teams to troubleshoot issues as they occur while also building, scaling, and maturing the DB2 for i (a.k.a. DB2/400, IBM i, iSeries) platform. You will have an opportunity to lead the design of certain platform components and suggest new technology/tools based on industry and technological trends and advances. You will also consult with product owners and senior members of the staff to understand the business and application requirements and provide suggestions based on platform best practices. Focusing on high-level and technical systems design you will collaborate with Architects and Engineers to help build and maintain a robust environment for application development, deployment, hosting, data storage and ingestion. This position must sit out of either our corporate location in Reading, PA, or Tampa, FL. Penske Responsibilities:- Act as the primary contact and lead support associate for multiple critical components of the platform and help resolve customer issues in a timely manner
- Collaborate with development staff to ensure database changes follow Penske's change management procedures and comply with established outage schedules
- Run through query review workflow within defined SLAs
- Identify poorly running processes in production - CPU, plan cache analysis
- Execute data fixes and after-hours database deploys
- Perform on-going research to explore new features, versions, and related technologies, and provide recommendations to enhance our offerings
- Participate in conducting new hire interviews
- Work closely with the project team and report clearly and accurately to management
- Build and maintain stable working relationships internally
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science/Computer Engineering or equivalent years of software development/system administration experience required
- 5-7 years of industry experience with knowledge of IBM i server and Db2 for i platform administration and programming languages required
- 3 years of hands-on DBA experience working with DB2 for i
- 3 years of experience with relational database (RDBMS) and OLTP/OLAP concepts
- Basic IBM i navigation - ACS, Schemas, Run SQL, plan cache, calling a program, stored procedure, creating UDF, etc.
- Professional demeanor works effectively in a team setting
- Intermediate level experience with SQL query tuning on Db2 for IBM i
- Intermediate level experience with Visual Explain, plan cache analysis
- Intermediate experience with running DB trace
- Good understanding of DB journal concepts
- Good understanding of index management - index advisor, query usage statistics
- Basic level experience in data modeling concepts
- Basic level experience with RPG, PL/SQL or other programming on IBM i
- Nice to have: iDoctor / Job Watcher
- Nice to have: IIDR (IBM InfoSphere Data Replication) or other journal-based data replication
- Regular, predictable, full attendance is an essential function of the job
